I've done some searches on the lens, and the interest seems fairly minimal probably due to it being large and heavy. Anybody get it in hand and what are your thoughts? It's old DSLR but it looks like it pretty decent. I don't mind large necessarily.
I have it in F mount. It's a really nice lens. I think coming out in 2019 in the middle of the mirrorless transition and then covid hitting kind of killed interest in the 28mm f1.4 and 40mm f1.4 which are both great lenses.
The 28, while definitely not small is a much more reasonable size and weight than the 40mm. But the IQ of the 40mm is basically unmatched in an AF lens under 100mm.
I keep hoping Sigma will make mirrorless versions of the 28mm f1.4 and 40mm f1.4.
I really have my doubts that the 28 and 40 will ever find their way to the mirrorless ART series. Just somewhat slightly alternative focal lengths that I don't see Sigma revisiting.

I have the E mount version, it gives up a little sharpness in the center wide open, but it's still a very sharp lens. And it improves as you stop down.
I picked up the E mount 28 and 40 for dirt cheap new, couldn't resist.
Just throwing this out there, but do you need autofocus? If not, the new Voigtlander 28/1.5 in Sony mount is 1/3 the weight and only $100 more than the Sigma at BH. Of course used prices for the Sigma are better. But that little Voigtlander 28/1.5 looks pretty good.
I think Voigtlander Nokton F2 is fine lens. Sigma 28mm F1.4 ART also fine lens.
Nikon 28mm F1.4E is slightly better in the center, but similar to Sigma at corner (I have both)
All three are very sharp and similar performance.
But the best quality lens Leica APO-Summicron-SL 28mm f/2.0 ASPH is the finest ever made.
Behind this, Otus 28mm f1.4, and Sigma 28-45mm F1.8 are tie in sharpness.
Sigma 28-45mm center sharpness is better than Sigma 28mm art, but corner is opposite.
For Nikon, Sigma 28mm or Nikon 28mm E is neck to neck.
For Sony, Sigma 28-45mm is the top tier, and Panasonic, Leica APO-Summicron-SL 28mm f/2.0 ASPH.
If you can deal with the weight and size it's one of the best performers out there at a super low cost. balances fine with my Z8. For indoor documentary style photographs it's hard to beat.
