Decided to buy a Q3 28 hood for fitment on my Q3 43 using the method someone showed where a guy attached a very small piece of tape to the inner most of the hood threads . It made the hood seat a bit better. Just got mine and with the tape in place it works just fine with a normal filter on it and in macro mode.
For those interested part number of the Q3 28 lens hood is : 423-116.001-015.
Does it vignette? I can't imagine it would since 43 is tighter than 28, but it would be helpful to know.

I think we should talk about AF performance. Noticeable worse on this camera due to the focal length of 43mm lens.
It hunts far more than the 28Lux does on the Q3. Its not a deal breaker but it would appear some firmware needs to be updated to smooth out the AF capability. This isn't a lens I want for sports but anything moving (a puppy) is significantly harder with this camera.
Also, once I have gotten used to the AF performance and AI recognition of Canon's R5Mk2- It reminds you quickly how far behind this camera is in terms of AF and subject detection. Again, not things I really need in this camera but the 43mm lens make eye detect a little more important. On the Q3, you have much more latitude in AF misses with a wider lens. Less so here-
Again its really great camera to use but not quite perfect.

Thanks for that info. It’s these kinds of things that make me wonder why people are willing to pay top dollar for Leica, when things one can take for granted in other cheaper brands aren’t incorporated in what is called a ‘premium’ camera.

Software seems to be a weakness in the Leica product development capabilities. This is evident in the AF, and stability issues in recent products. The industry is more and more driven by software. Computer aided optical engineering is rapidly eroding Leica's advantages in optical design. All the majors are now making very high quality optics. Companies using the very same sensors and other hardware as Leica are achieving incredible AF performance. Software is the actual differentiator in AF performance and Leica is lagging noticeably.
I am not sure who has done the software work on the new D-Lux 8, but I suspect it is not the same people that have done the work on the latest M, Q, and SL products. They have all had major software problems and deficiencies. The D-Lux 8 in contrast has been stable and without any major software related issues since first release. Interesting contrast.
Yes, Leica makes unique and special products based on esthetics and form factors that provide a user experience that many love. But Leica absolutely needs to step up it's software development and feature performance metrics. This along with customer orientated service and support are where Leica most needs improvement in my experience. The brand, and its customers deserve it.

Just looked through the viewfinder and could not see any. Preparing for powerful hurricane Milton right now so no time for anything else.
As for AF, everyone knows that focus is easier on wide lenses than normal and tele lenses. That said sure AF should be better on every camera. I tried tracking and eye focus and it sure worked for me.

I’ve found AF (including eye detect) to be pretty good… my biggest challenge is camera shake due to the combo of a longer lens and that massive sensor. I wish Leica would allow the Auto-iSO shutter speed to be 1x or 2x the lens rather than having to choose between 1/30, 1/60, and 1/125 for this 43mm lens.

+1 I thought the AF while not Sony level is pretty good for people, maybe less so for animals although I don't have a pet to test it on.
As for camera shake, I ran into that too and set the min auto ISO to 1/250 and that cleared up the issues for me. It's what I have it set to on my M11 and generally works fine.

My Q3 43 arrived this afternoon… after charging it up, I headed outside with only a couple minutes of daylight to spare.
All it took was a quick walk around the block to remind me of why I love this form factor so much (I’ve previously owned the Q2 and Q3 before moving to a Nikon Zf and a trio of Voigtlander lenses).
So lightweight, quiet, and simple to operate. When I’m shooting with a Q, I don’t concern myself with coming away with a keeper… I just enjoy the process.
The 28mm (26) starting focal length was always a touch too wide for my shooting style… 43 feels just right. First reaction… I’m in heaven 🙂

Camera shake. Don't make the mistake of of setting 'Auto', just select 'On'!

Not following you here?
You set any shutter speed you want for min shutter speed up to 1/2000. As long as your ISO settings are high enough to achieve that.

That did the trick! It is also settling at 1/80 for me now. Many thanks! :-)

I leave minimum shutter speed of auto iso setting to be auto and it usually goes down to 1/80 before reaching the max iso.
I found it’s pretty good, I don’t have blurred images when shooting 1/80 SS

Interesting… I had it set to auto… Does that mean the camera is sometimes disabling the in-lens VR, even when I’m shooting handheld?
I always assumed that the camera would only shut it off if it detected it was completely stable (mounted on a tripod). I’ve changed the setting to ON and I’ll report back! Any little bit helps to combat my shaky hands 😂 One of the main reasons I’ve been able to resist the M-system all these years is a lack of image stabilization.

Do you have a full res of this hosted somewhere? Would be interested in seeing.
The only image hosting site I'm set up for is Imgur. I just tried to upload a full-res version of the image, but it automatically downsizes it to 2mb, unfortunately. Not a great image to evaluate the lens anyhow... a bit of camera shake (I was walking with my wife and her patience for me stopping every four or five steps was waning by that point) and focused on the top branches at the right of the image, so the trunk and other branches are somewhat out-of-focus.
For reference's sake, settings were ISO100, 1/60s, f5.6

Yeah I think Leica regards 1/80 shutter speed as 2x focal length. But the catch is don’t set the max ISO in auto ISO too low otherwise when max ISO is reached the shutter speed is going to be reduced slower than 1/80

Haven’t owned or shot with Leica since I was a metro staffer 20 years ago using a pair of M6’s and an M4P. This Q3 43 has me wanting to rekindle my relationship with the red dot camera. Seems like they are out of stock everywhere. When are they expected to be readily available again?

Regarding IBIS I remember long time ago I read from somewhere that on Q3 IBIS is engaged only when the shutter is slower than 1/60 if it’s left auto.
So if you have shaky hands, you want to leave it on instead of auto. For me pictures with 1/80 looks sharp enough so I leave IBIS to be auto
On the Q3 43 Image Stabilization is implemented at a shutter speed at or slower than 1/100.
