Sorry for your loss. Had a ridgeback/greyhound mix a while back that was quite a character.
I hear your on that aspect. I made the comment to my wife recently that I was upset I didn’t have a camera with us at dinner because going out for a date I never think about bringing my Sony on a strap.
An M on the other hand…

Because I already know this camera will be on my side for some of the most meaningful moments of my life- I can't say that about any other camera brand.
The Q/M just work for me and feel natural to have on a shoulder strap on my body with no bag.
For example this picture- This girl just passed (best dog I have ever had the pleasure of living with) and I just happened to capture this because the camera was un-obtrusive and easy to have for a walk on the beach. So for me, the price and minor annoyance of small issues is worth it. ...Show more →

I think their solution is buy the vented hood they offer.
The vented hood causes other problems. With the original Q28 hood, you could shoot in the rain with no issues. Slightly less so with the new version of the stock hood on the Q3 43. With their vented round hood you'll get raindrops all over your lens/filter. It's too wide and open.
I'd take a "standard" longer round hood before using the vented round hood Leica offers.

I know just what you guys are saying about Ridgebacks. I had one between the ages of about 8 to 14. He was a fantastic dog and he and I bonded very closely. He and my skateboard were my primary mode of transportation. He wore a harness with which he pulled me around the Island of Coronado. He loved it and went very fast at times. He responded to both leash and voice commands for steering and speed. My youngest Brother inherited him when I went away to boarding school at 15 years old.
I'll always love that dog. His name was Wayne Johns, backwards for the famous actor because he had the same sideways gate as a puppy.

Will try the tape method as described above with a Q28 hood. I want both my Q's to look pretty much the same.

Yes. I ordered from Leica Camera USA. The camera already had firmware 2.0.5 which I thought was interesting given that others' did not receive a camera with the update.

Send it back for a replacement. Was the box sealed when received?

My Q3 43 finally arrived last night and I got a chance to take a few test shots today. The amount of detail in the photos blows me away. The lens rendering is beautiful. Colors are fantastic. Coming from Q2 I’m enjoying the tilt screen and the focal length. The noise quality is surprisingly good because it is very fine and random. I’m also enjoying Leica Looks.
There are two downsides so far. In low light the EVF lags a lot. Setting the EVF at 120 fps made no difference—is there a setting that can help with this? The other is the file sizes—even my M2 Max Mac Studio lagged a few times when switching/deleting photos in LrC.
I’m neutral on the filter/hood issue. I was surprised that max aperture in macro mode is f/2.8 but not a big regret.

In terms of color, with the Q28 I usually underexposed by 1/3-2/3 stops just to get a little more depth in the colors. With the Q3 43 I’m finding that really isn’t necessary.

I agree. Here’s a quick test shot from yesterday. SOOC using Classic Leica Look:

Took the q3 43 out last night-
It felt a little tight at times in doors- I think I probably prefer that 28 when inside. The Autofocus is the same as with the Q3- It gets the job done but not a selling point of this camera. If there is other people around, Eye AF is pretty much worthless and I switch to spot-
I did however much prefer the 43mm focal length stepping outside.
Overall its exactly what I thought the camera to be-
I am really impressed by the lens. The files feel like they do from my M11 when using the 35/50 APO lenses.
Overall I think the package is pretty special. It’s truly a debate on what focal length suits you better- 28 or 43- Both lenses are phenomenal.

All Q's loose one stop when set to macro mode even the Q3 28. Good luck on your first Q.

This is simply the same as putting an extension tube between a lens / film plane. The light is now, "spread out" farther (iaw ISL), so the concentration is reduced. Amount of light, as well as acuteness / contrast is similarly effected by the macro mechanism.
Take away ... nothing wrong with the lens / camera. Just the simple physics of light.
Nice to have the convenience of a "built-in, extension tube" in the Q. Just good to understand the physics of what is happening, so expectations are well understood, too.
I wish more lenses had that feature, built in. Because it is a mechanical adjustment, it doesn't require an optical compromise in lens design to get the closer focus. Granted, it's not going to have the same acutance as a dedicated Macro lens, but the convenience factor for the small difference is nice ... keeping with the ethos of the Q as an EDC. Personally, there are times I like the "smoother" rendering that can one gets from extending the lens away from the film plane. That, and it's not a tremendous amount, so if you want to bring back a bit more contrast, there's always PP.

I have been experimenting with digital zoom for the past few days, and it seems to work pretty well for me. My settings are as follows: AF-S, Face Eye detect, and Zoom assigned to Fn 2. With these settings, I can quickly limit the area of focus, making it much easier and faster for me to focus on objects that are not people, or to limit the eye/face detect to the right person

That makes sense and consistent with extension tubes as you noted.

My Q3 43 arrived this afternoon… after charging it up, I headed outside with only a couple minutes of daylight to spare.
All it took was a quick walk around the block to remind me of why I love this form factor so much (I’ve previously owned the Q2 and Q3 before moving to a Nikon Zf and a trio of Voigtlander lenses).
So lightweight, quiet, and simple to operate. When I’m shooting with a Q, I don’t concern myself with coming away with a keeper… I just enjoy the process.
The 28mm (26) starting focal length was always a touch too wide for my shooting style… 43 feels just right. First reaction… I’m in heaven 🙂

Cost is much different but I think the 43 APO can replace both of the Voigts if you wanted them to. Lens is pretty special- It really is a great little camera!

Decided to buy a Q3 28 hood for fitment on my Q3 43 using the method someone showed where a guy attached a very small piece of tape to the inner most of the hood threads . It made the hood seat a bit better. Just got mine and with the tape in place it works just fine with a normal filter on it and in macro mode.
For those interested part number of the Q3 28 lens hood is : 423-116.001-015.
