p.1 #1 · L-Bracket for r5 II and camera plate for RF100-500
I received emails from both Kirk and RRS today that they are taking pre-orders for the new r5 mkII.
Those that have the bodies, have you tried using your existing L-bracket on the R5 mkII
I've got that R5 mkII on pre-order, and decided to splurge on the RF 100-500 with the $500 pre-order cad back offer. I sold the battery grip and RRS L-bracket I had for the BG-R10 grip. I'm currently using the SmallRig L-bracket I picked hen I got the R5 before that grip was available.
Anyone know if the Smallrig for that R5/6 will fit that R5mkii Any suggestions on a reasonably priced arca-Swiss plate for the RF 100-500 I also recall reading about issues with tripod collar for the RF100-500. Is that a real concern or more user error did canon ever address those issues after the initial release

I have used a plate from Hejnar Photo for a few years. No problems for me. I also use his plates on 200-800 and 800mm f11. Small machine shop in Illinois that specializes in camera plates, ect. I'm not sure if he ships to Canada, but he does sell on ebay so it might ship from there to Canada.EDIT: I sent them an email and they do ship to Canada and most countries.

I'm using the 3 Legged Thing L-bracket for the original R5 on the Mark II and it works fine. I can't see any areas it would need to be changed.
I have the Kirk lens plate for the 100-500 and I think their replacement foot on the 400, both are very well made and designed, no complaints at all.

My R5 Kirk L-plate works just fine on my R5m2. I don't have any issues and wonder what they did differently.
I also have the Kirk plate for the 100-500, love the quick disconnect thing for my sling strap, have it on all cameras / lenses.
So the R5 L-plate doesn't block or impede the bottom air vent on the R5II? It looks like it would.
Nothing a little grinding work couldn't resolve I think.

The SmallRig L bracket for the R5 will work on the R5ii just fine. It will allow some airflow through the vents. A little milling will improve things greatly. Probably fine for stills; perhaps the video people will want to mill things out a bit. Easily done by a pro will a milling machine or a photographer with a file.

Just received a Leofoto L bracket for the R5. It fits perfectly on the R5ii and does not obstruct the cooling vents at all. It does, however, block access to the HDMI and USB C ports.
Also, Leofoto has a new design tripod mount for the 100-500 coming. When, not certain. It appears to me to be far superior to the POS Canon mount. I will be buying one as soon as it is available.
Price is good and while there aren't a lot of reviews, they seem good.
Like Kyle mentioned above, I also have the replacement collar you linked to and it works very well. I've had no issues with it and honestly feel it is an improvement on the Canon collar - it balances better in use and when the camera / lens camera is sitting on a flat surface.

My Smallrig doesn't fit all that great on the R5, so it's not a high bar. I prefer the generic Kirk bracket, but I don't ever use the swingout display. I need a rigid mount for verticals since I mostly do landscapes.

I've got the small rig, used it for about two weeks when I got the R5, until my battery grip and just put it back on now after selling my grip and RRS bracket - hoping the small rig is also an anti-slip plate - will find out this weekend!

I never used my small rig much, got it during Covid and than the grip and RRS arrives. Will see how it functions now that o no longer have the grip. Will decide if I'll also get one for the R5 II, or if there are better options.
I never use the swing out display either - well maybe used it once or twice😁 EB-1 wrote:

Interesting yours does not fit well on the R5. I put mine back on my R5 and it still fits well. Mine is the adjustable version where the vertical part can be extended. I don't often use it that way since I have adequate access to the ports I need, mostly none of them but it certainly had been strong enough support to use it for night skies.

I got this for my 100-500 and it works very well without any problem.
I loosen up the knob so I can rotate my camera + zoom freely.
Only thing is the small cap that cover the knob came off not too long after. A drop of crazy glue fixed it.
It's well worth it for the price.
