If I had a Leica Safari, I would want a Skopar 35 mm f/3.5 lens. I would also like to use it on a Fuji, but unfortunately the minimum focus distance of 0.7 metres is too far away.

Unless by Fuji you mean GFX, you can use a close focus adapter for M to X.

For those who prefer 28mm, the Color-Skopar 28mm f/2.8 is another great match for the Safari, especially in the silver chrome brass finish.

However, the Voigtlander 50mm f/3.5 APO-Lanthar in "Olive" looks like it was made with the Safari M in mind. The combination of chrome and green pairs beautifully with the camera's design.

I almost went for the Color Skopar but decided on the Ultron to pair with the 50 3.5 APO.

Very nice! ...and the front chrome ring is a great touch here. I haven't seen a silver lens that doesn't look good on the Safari. I just got my Elcan back from Yuri and have been playing with it this morning. As far as I know, Leica never made the Elcan in silver, but since it was originally a military lens, it actually pairs well with the Safari green in its own way.

Nice. The black “brassed” versions of the LLL lenses also look good on the Safari.

Fred, did you ever compare this lens to the Leica 50 APO?

Freddy, I've never tried the Leica 50mm f/2 APO. I already have the Voigtlander 50mm f/2 APO-Lanthar (which is perfection), and the Leica never really tempted me enough to give it a shot. However, I compared the Voigtlander 50/2 to the 50/3.5 and they essentially offer the same level of performance at f/3.5 and smaller apertures. (Many side by side tests in this review)

Just a fun observation for anyone considering the Special Editions: the Green Olive version comes with brass caps and hood, and that definitely shows on the scale. With everything included, it weighs 335 grams, compared to 254g for the regular Type I Duo-Tone (black and silver). However, when weighed bare (lens only), they're essentially the same.

One cool thing about having both the CV 50mm f3.5 APO-Lanthar in the Olive edition and the CV 28mm f2.8 Color-Skopar in Silver is that you can use the olive brass hood from the 50mm on the 28mm (both share the same 34mm filter thread).

Personally, I think the 50mm f/3.5 actually looks better without the hood. It stays more compact and still matches the Safari color scheme nicely.

Here's how it looks. It fits well and does not cause any vignetting!

Is this payback for influencing a Safari purchase? Looks really good and makes me want one.

Thinking that Safari hood would fit and look amazing on the 28 Summaron reissue as well.

hahaha! Yes, payback.

It should work well on the Summaron, but since the front element is a bit more recessed on this lens, there might be some vignetting. With the 28mm f2.8 Color-Skopar and the 35mm f3.5 Color-Skopar, there is no vignetting at all. I will also try it on the CV 40mm f2.8 Heliar, although I have the black paint version of that lens. I expect to work without any problems. All these lenses are 34mm.

The idea came up because I actually prefer the CV 50mm f3.5 Olive without the hood. Try it and you'll see what I mean. With the hood off, I figured I'd try it on some other lenses too. All of these Cosina lenses are flare resistant, so this is really just for Safari match aesthetics.

Here are a photo of the M10-P with the Voigtlander 50mm f/3.5 APO-Lanthar without the included “Olive edition” hood. This setup would look the same on the M11-P Safari.

I borrowed the 1mm silver filter (34mm) from the Voigtlander 35mm f/3.5 Color-Skopar.

I wish Cosina offered some of their accessories separately. The 1mm thin 34mm filter shown in the image above, which comes with the Voigtlander 35mm f/3.5 Color-Skopar, doesn't seem to be available for individual purchase. If anyone knows otherwise, feel free to chime in.

I saw the filters for 35/3.5 CS being sold separately at Ogisaku Camera in Tokyo. Not sure if they are commonly available in other Japanese stores though.

Does anyone know the MFD of version 1 with the vm-e helicoid adapter (I’ve got the voigtlander version 1)
And its performance that close up?
Version II will probably be insanely close when using the close focus adapter
Can’t find this info anywhere

Also wondering about the focus throw of version l
If anyone cares to share, thank u!

Cosina has a table of MFD distance list for the VM-E Close Focus adapter II on its product page here: https://www.cosina.co.jp/voigtlander/accessories/vm-e-close-focus-adapter-ii/

For Type I of the lens the MFD with adapter II is 33.4 cm. Quite close to 35cm of Type II without helicoid adapter.

There was a similar table for discontinued adapter I but I'm not sure if it's been updated with new lens info after that version of adapter was discontinued. I'll try to find it from Cosina's archives page.

Thank you Juha!
The old Version 1 Adapter table doesnt have the newer lenses included.
Your answer is good enough

Also very much appreciate you sharing your pictures here with us - very clear examples of how the different CV lenses render.

Arigato gozaimasu 🙏!
