I received my 300mm f/2.8 IS mkII today from a fellow FM member and took it out for a try with my R5mkII. I am VERY happy with the results, even if these are static shots. The lens is everything I had heard - tack sharp and not too bad handheld. The only problem was I waited 30 minutes and not once did the GBH grab a fish lol! Then I waited for it to fly off for the night, but it outlasted me and it became too dark to wait any longer. Maybe next time! The other thing I have to keep in mind is at f2.8, the DOF is really narrow, even at 25 or 30 feet away. These images were shot at ISO 1600 and 3200 and cleaned up nicely in DxO.
I tried using the Canon 2X TC mkIII for the first time today with my 600mm f4mkII. I was pleasantly surprised by the results. I wouldn't use it all the time, but if I need extra reach, it's a viable option.
Cross posted from the 2024-25 Winter thread. A few birds today with the R5 II, 100-500mm and 1.4X at 700mm and f/10. I also tried out the new Adaptive profile in Lightroom after denoising with DXO Pure Raw and some cropping-
