This “sleeper lens” possesses that classic Leica rendering in the smallest of packages (a mere 23.5mm long, measured from the flange). These were made in Germany from 1972 through 1975 to accompany the Leica CL. This one began life in 1974. I purchased it on FM a few years ago. I love the extra "elbow room" compared to a 50mm but not quite the breadth of the 35mm when close-in to your subject.

I think it’s one of the great values in the Leica M ecosystem under $1K. However prices continue to head north along with so many other Leica/Leitz M lenses (like the ever-ascending 35mm IV).

Below are links to:

1) One I sold in late ’21

2) An FM sale from last May.

The Summicron-C is known for developing stiff focusing over time without a CLA. This one benefits from a CLA from DAG in late 2020. The flange has been filed to bring up 35mm frame lines and also converted to 6-bit coding. It is coded to match the 35mm Summicron IV. This can be changed if desired. The CLA documentation will be provided.

The lens barrel is in great cosmetic condition with a few small paint losses. The glass is in excellent condition with no signs of nasties to my eyes nor did Don note any. The ten-blade aperture is free of oil front and back. Aperture and focus rings operate as they should.

I removed the white paint from the face of the lens - this is a personal preference similar to my preference for the monochrom cameras with no branding/writing in white paint.

I spent quite awhile searching and buying the following included accessories:

- Leitz 40mm Summicron-C Box w/ both styrofoam inserts (non-matching serial number)

- 12518 Rubber hood (in excellent shape, no cracks or tears) which holds series 5.5 filters

- 14191 Hood Cap

- B+W 010 Haze filter (series 5.5) in original box in 9+ condition (this is the one I used day-to-day)

- B+W Skylight filter (series 5.5) KR1.5

- E. Leitz Green filter (series 5.5)

- E. Leitz Orange filter (series 5.5) w/ original case

- Tiffen Yellow filter (series 5.5)

- Adapter ring to convert standard 39mm .50 pitch to the Summicron-C’s .75 pitch so regular filters may be used (aftermarket)

- Leitz 98183 adapter ring - This was sold to extend the barrel of the lens long enough to accommodate attachment of a clamp-on polarizer filter. This is what I use (w/uv filter) in lieu of the rubber hood day to day (w/ box)

- Front & rear generic caps

This shows the adapter 98183 w/ haze filter which I use day-to-day instead of the rubber hood

Hey I know this guy! Great seller, great lens can't go wring here! Actually came on to see what 40 Summicron's are available as I keep selling and then missing this lens. Its a year off my quest of finding a 1975 version (the year I was born) but wow it looks great with a DAG CLA its hard to beat! Good luck with the sale Joey!
