Our cherry tree has loads of blossoms this year and the bumblebees love it.
This lens is really versatile. It has a lot of geometric vignetting with resulting cats eye effect but it is sharp and bokeh is nice all around. The camera-lens combination is light and small enough. My Sigma 100-400 offers more reach and more harmonious image quality but it is less portable and (for me) already a bit unwieldy.

A quick question for owners of this lens: I received my copy today. When I took it out of the box, I was startled by the rattling sound it made. I shook it and thought, "Something must be loose in there!" I called the retailer I bought it from, and they asked, "Have you tried mounting it on the camera yet? Does it make that noise when the camera is turned on?" So, I attached it to my A7V and switched it on—and lo and behold, the rattling was gone. Now I suspect the image stabilizer (or something similar) is the culprit. But is that possible? I’ve owned a few lenses with built-in image stabilization before, but none of them ever rattled. This one is pretty extreme—at least to my ears. But perhaps it’s normal? What is it like with your copies?

this is typical linear focus motor behavior. the elements float on rails that only get locked in place under power from the camera

Okay, thank you! So nothing to worry about I suppose.

Interesting! I always thought that the 50-300 is more or less "the same" as the 50-400, only smaller... But this seems to be a difference! My 50-400, at least, doesn't rattle the slightest.

The images from this lens look great in this thread. I am assuming that the image quality is wildly better than the old Sony 70-300. How does it compare to the old Sony 100-400 where they overlap? Has anyone owned both?

I don't have the Sony but I can tell you the Tamron 50-300 is one of most underrated lenses in Sony's lineup.

Nice shot. Tamron always makes astonishing zooms. Maybe the admins could change the title of this thread to “Tamron FE Images Thread.” I realized there aren't any other Tamron images threads besides this one.
