Sharpness seems to be good in the center even on an "open" aperture, corners are decent.
Stabilisation works fine, 1/125 sec at 300mm is relatively unproblematic, 1/250 sec safe, but you need much more for moving subjects.
AF is comparable to the 28-75/2.8 G2, the body looks similar but the plastic is more matt, the feeling is a little different.
Thanks for the pictures. I imported them in Lightroom to have a better view, and I find that those are great results. Vignetting is a little high uncorrected (waiting for a profile). Distorsion seems manageable even if you have very few images with straight lines, so leaving the images uncorrected is not a problem.
Overall a great performer for the weight/size/price. Seems a no brainer as a hiking lens.
I'm super considering this lens as a little bit of everything type lens. It can do macro (.5x like the Sony F4 70-200, but only towards the wide end unlike Sony which is all focal lengths) but get a little wider and tighter. I guess the only thing I'm not 100% sure about is the IQ on my a7rV. I'm sure it'd be amazing though, highly interested still.

I took some pictures yesterday with mine, it was my second time doing macro but I was pretty happy with the results. I'll try and post some pictures tomorrow sometime.
I birded with the Tamron 50-300 today for the first time - with my Sony A7R3 no less (so less than ideal AF).
I found f8 sharp at 300, image stabilization worked very well, and AF was not an issue. 300 is about the shortest you can do for birds, but as a carry everywhere lens, it did a lot better than i expected. A few shots of the White Breasted Kingfisher, Great Tit and Palestine Sunbird below...
A couple SooC vacational fullsize (open in a new tab) jpegs (with a polarizer) . Due to the lens size/weight, I used it as a walkaround lens rather than tele, so not many 300mm shots (it was too hot and humid for anything remotely far anyway).
I’m testing out the 50-300mm I just received, in like new condition and is centered and sharp throughout the range. I bought this to pair with a wide zoom when I want a lighter hiking kit compared to my usual backpack with GMII zooms. I need to shoot more with it but so far am pleased. This is from a local hike yesterday.

I bought this lens to be my lowkey birding lens, but it's too short and slow, however it is plenty sharp, and has become my kick around landscape telezoom. Lots of photos with it here:
I'm really loving this lens - IQ is better than the 28-200 to my eye, subjects pop a bit more, still fits in the hex ranger mini sling with my A7CR. The 660g~ beats out other telephoto options for backpacking too for my use cases. Should pair well with the 20-70.
