From the last day on our vacation in Maine, before heading home. Always love going to Monhegan, glad we were able to spend the night this trip. A few shots from the hill overlooking the harbor.

Nice and quiet place it seems. Only 1 person in that last shot, and they are in the bushes. But, what is that bridge thing for that goes up to the little tiny building on the top?

It's a small island, and there are 3 ferries that run people out. The day before there was a bad storm forecasted for the afternoon, so the ferries only took people out who were spending the night, and then would bring people back who were planning on coming back that day. So the number of people out and about were much lower than usual. This was the following day, but the sea was still choppy enough that again they only transported people to and from who were spending the night. So we were worried that they wouldn't run the boats out the day of our trip, and then once we were out there, we were worried whether they would run the boats back the next day. Luckily it all worked out.
That island is called Manana, and at one point in the early 1900's there was a hermit that lived out there. But today, I think most of what you see is related to a now automated Manana Island Sound Signal Station. You can just see a bit of the roof peeking out on the left side of the island. I believe that ramp was to get supplies for the station, I assume before it was automated. The building at the end of the ramp is a hoist house I think.
My parents started going to Maine when I was 2 years old, been going up there all my life. It had beed a long time since we stayed out on the island. The times we did go over the past 5-10 years were just day trips.
