A couple of days ago I visited the Marine Nature Study Area in Oceanside, NY. The forecast was for clearing and the rain had stopped on the North Shore of Long Island yet the radar was still showing rain on the South Shore with it moving out. I headed out expecting the light rain to stop yet it got heavier. There was a very high tide with flooding and the water was just below the tops of the bridges in the preserve with most of the marsh under water. In a few places the paths were just about covered with water and I wondered if I might get stuck out in the marsh for a while yet I proceeded. The park was empty, well of people while I saw much more wildlife than usual, a photographer and nature lovers paradise. I spent hours slowly wondering from one subject to another, damp yet dressed for the rain and cool weather so conferrable and very relaxed enjoying the varied wildlife including a large variety of sandpipers and other shore birds and even a nutria.
Comments and suggestions welcome,
Morris
