I pick up my copy today, so looking forward to seeing how it performs. I sold my Sony 24-70 GM II several months ago, so hope this will be a good replacement.

I like it a lot so far. Great sharpness overall (A7RV), fast and silent AF, same features as on the GM (AF ring, MF switch, etc).
My first impressions are very good. As a previous owner of the GM II, I would say this is in the same league (maybe better than my GM II that I sold). The build is excellent and it balances very nicely on my A7RV. Focus is fast and silent as you would expect. Will post some pics soon.

First time posting here after lurking for several years.
I love this lens and use it mostly for people pics. But, since there's so much discussion about image quality at various focal lengths, I thought I'd post three different focal length views -- 24mm, 50mm and 70mm -- taken with this lens on SL2S earlier this year at Yosemite. I imagine a lot of people are tired of seeing Tunnel View by now, but I hope you'll find something interesting in the images.
p.s., I posted and deleted because the images displayed way too big (even thought posted at the same size I do on other forums -- 1600px long edge). So, I re-sized to 800px long edge and re-posted. Please don’t hesitate to let me know if they should be handled differently.

I did previously own the GM II, but I then went to some manual focus primes and slower zooms. Recently, I went even more compact with some DN and G primes on the a7C R. If I were to purchase a 24-70 f/2.8 again, I would definitely get the Sigma II, unless I find a 24-70 GM II used at a similiar price. The GM II copy I used was decentered, and about 1/4 of the frame was soft above 50mm, as many have reported as well. Good copies should be similiar optically, and the extra (small) refinements are almost only visible at high frame rates of fast moving subjects.
I do consider selling my whole kit and going for some zooms again.
Don’t forget if you buy any sigma (or Tamron for that matter lens) new you get an amazing five year warranty where you can essentially send your lens to Sigma for the cost of shipping to have it cleaned repaired adjusted or just get the peace of mind that it’s in perfect working order

Good feedback, thanks. You having a decentered copy of the GM 24-70 II isn't the first that I've heard of. I'm a little surprised as I like to think lenses that get the GM badge should get special treatment specifically regarding tighter QC and tolerances. I'm probably naive in that regard.
Sony’s 70-200/GMll is the superstar of the GM zooms. The 24-70 is great if you can find a good copy. Personally, I just wanted primes in the 24-50 range. It gives me the look I want and I prefer primes when I'm in close with the family. Less intimidating which I have found leads to better photos.

That's the nature of zooms, especially complex ones as fast standard. Lenses as the 70-200 GM II and 200-600 G seem to have little variation (the two copies of each that I tried were excellent), while 24-70 GM II and 100-400 GM seem to have quite a lot. The 12-24 GM also had some, but I think there's only few bad copies now, which is true for the 14-24 DN as well.
Some years ago, I tried two copies of the 100-400 GM, 100-400 DN and 14-24 DN. Both of the 100-400 GM lenses were soft at 400mm. Both of the 100-400 and 14-24 DN copies would ever so slightly lose focus on even totally still subjects every so often. Perhaps it's the same phenomenon as on Fujifilm. I haven't had these issues with recent Sigma lenses, though, but I've only tested some primes. The 14-24 DN copies were consistent all over the frame in the entire zoom range, but they were never bitingly sharp like the 12-24 GM, regardless of aperture.
