Instead of being called X-T40, as reported by Fujirumors. Could be announced in the first half of 2024. No rumored specs yet, but this is my guess (in addition to getting the X-T5 processor):
IBIS: This is a given, given that the rumored accompanying new kit lens 16-50 f2.8-4.8 doesn't have OIS.
40MP or 26MP: 50-50. I wish it would have 40MP to be a more meaningful refresh, but the X-S20 has 26MP.
Form factor, LCD, and battery: likely unchanged; otherwise it will become significantly larger. I do hope Fuji can move the EVF a bit more off center to give a more comfortable grip, but it's unlikely that Fuji does anything that dramatic.
EVF: hope it's bigger and has higher resolution, but the probability is low.
All in all it's likely a standard refresh + IBIS. Will you buy it?
I could actually see Fuji using the 26 and 40mp sensors to differentiate between consumer and pro level cameras. Even though the X-S20 is borderline a pro camera. The X-H2S having a stacked sensor makes it Pro, but you get what I mean.
They've got the smaller EVF and smaller battery in there to keep the form factor. IBIS is a given, and since the XT30 already has the 4th generation sensor and processor, the XT "50" (or whatever it is to be called) will probably have the 5th generation processor and 40 MP sensor.
I really like my X-T30ii as a small camera to use with the 27mm f2.8 and 18mm f2. But I also have the X-T5 to use with bigger Fuji lenses.
I'd certainly think about upgrading if the X-T50 came with IBIS and the price was reasonable. As I already have the 40mp sensor in the X-T5, personally I'd be happy with keeping the 26mp sensor in the X-T50 just to have something different. But I also shoot with the old X-Trans 2 cameras, and I am guessing my preferences of wanting to shoot with a variety of sensors are unusual.
A larger EVF would be nice, but I wouldn't want Fuji to increase the overall size. They already make bigger cameras and being small will be the X-T50's niche.
I would assume all "fifth gen" models will have the 40mp sensor, as the sensor/processor seem to be a pair and not interchangable, i.e. the new cpu and older 4th gen 26mp sensor.
Huh, I figured this line was done. I love to save weight probably more than most. My XT5 has traveled over 120 miles this year on foot either on a strap or waste pouch. I don't keep track of elevation but I would estimate about 20,000 feet of elevation gain based on average hikes I do. Before I got the XT5, I looked at the XT30. Saving 6oz. would be ok with me for sure and I thought it a neat little camera. But it also felt de-contented and too small for my hands. Considering I would have to add a second battery, doesn't seem like enough weight loss to be worth it. With a new one, adding a couple more ounces for IBIS like the X100VI, it just seems too close to the same.

I reckon Fuji is seeing a lot of success with the XT5 and XS20 and is hoping to capture consumers who want a similar camera but at a sub-$1000 price point.
I'm also certain they're looking at the sales of the X100VI to see if there'd be potential demand for an XE4 or XPro3 successor.
I'm apparently one of the lucky one that got an X100VI, but if the X-T50 has the IBIS, the 5th Gen 40mp sensor and 5th Gen processor I think it would be an excellent choice for many. If they add or change much more, I think the price would need to go up too much. Having just got me a new beauty (X100VI) that I am still learning, I won't be in the market for this model.

No way that an XT50 is going to be sub-$1000.
I would guess it wouldn't have IBIS to keep the cost down. If it has IBIS it's just an XS-20 in a different form factor, right? No IBIS, 26 instead of 40, and I could see it being under 1000.
No, it's been discontinued for a few years now. Being released right at the start of COVID, followed by a huge supply chain shortage, seemed to have been terrible luck.
I’m enjoying the X-T30ii.
-In an X-T50 I would appreciate Weather Resistance (WR).
-IBIS would be good, but not essential.
- I’m fine with the 26mp sensor and have been amazed at how well detail is preserved on severe cropping.
- Another axis of tilt like the X-T5 would also be nice - just don’t screw it up with a flip screen out to the side!
I really like the aesthetics of the X-Tx0 bodies. I have/had the X-T2 and X-T5 and find the dials too busy-looking, and they are a bit too large. My problem with the X-T20/30 I had was that the grip was too small so there wasn't enough space on the right side of the back of the body for my thumb and nose to co-exist. Hope the X-T50 improves on this while maintaining an overall compact and clean design. If it helps to keep the body compact and lightweight, I wouldn't mind using the old battery. My X100VI uses the old battery anyway.

My thoughts exactly. I'm using the X-T30ii along with an X-T3. As someone who would very much like to stay with the 26mp sensor, I'm now scratching my head wondering if there will ever again be an upgrade path for me with Fujifilm X.
