p.1 #1 · ISS lunar transit

A very fast sub-2 second transit of the International Space Station, zinging past the moon at 18,000 miles per hour.

There are a few websites that will show areas when and where these are visible, and then it’s a matter of the weather cooperating and finding a decently dark spot in the path. I typically shoot these at max frame rate and try to start the burst capture about 30 seconds before I anticipate the pass until 30 seconds after. If I’m lucky I can see the ISS in the sky as a fast, bright object, but that doesn’t always happen.

Again outstanding unique photography Scott!

So I goofed in the OP, this was a pass that lasted about 6/10ths of a second, but I can't edit it now because it's in the running for featured thread, so...thanks! But just a little typo fix and extra context about how fast these happen.

Thank you Dan! Once I figured out this was possible it became one of my favorite things to do and a good excuse to get out in the country for some quiet while I set up and wait..sometimes...this particular one, I heard coyotes all around me

On a 30" calibrated monitor it is so much more unique and powerful!
Again VERY well done!

Thanks again! I wish everyone could view my pics that way instead of on phones!

I do not own a smartphone Scott! I spent 40 years with some kind of "device" to track me, listen to me, and loose my hearing.
That was enough!

Scott, man this is a brilliant capture! You planning and research paid off. I did view the image on my 27" monitor and looks very nice. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks a bunch!! The planning is the fun part, scouting remote but hopefully not sketchy back roads that will have a line of sight!
