As per this tweet from a Japanese importer, appears to be at least visually a recreation of the 50's Taylor-Hobson Anastigmat 2 inch f2

https://www.youtube.com/live/ZOgqhU8ddDg?si=LYgDSCsHjXaaU37b&t=295
shown to be collapsible at around the 4:55 mark of this livestream from day 1 of CP+ 2024.

They kept the idiotic infinity lock.

Who TF wants a damn infinity lock on a 50mm lens?

Or any lens for that matter-

I like retro inspired design but make the design better not make the same mistakes.

If they replaced the infinity lock with a focus tab this could be a real winner. LLL had interchangeable focus tabs on their speed panchro, it would be nice if other manufacturers took their cue and at least gave users the options to opt out of the dumber design choices.

A 50mm f2 lens with a 36mm filter size? Vignette much?..

It looks like it was based on this lens. (ad from 1971)

Some lovely images there. All these old lenses look so good. I think that the photographer has a lot to do with it but that doesnít stop me dreamingÖ

As a Brit that advert is so funnily ironic. ďBuy British Buy BestĒ. As a child I witnessed my fatherís anger at his British car failing to start on a cold or damp morning. He only ever had Mercedes after that Jag.

A very interesting "replica", at least in terms of exterior style. Two things to note though: it is made out of aluminum instead of brass like the original TTH, and it uses one ED and one HRI elements. While the 6/4 design is kept from the original, the rendering could be different. Would love to see some samples.

BTW the Reid III camera with the original TTH 2-inch collapsible is such a beautiful setup.

https://www.digitalcameraworld.com/reviews/thypoch-eureka-50mm-f2-review

A first look at the lens and a few samples, I cannot guess much from the photos of the review but my impression is that the rendering looks pretty modern, quite smooth especially in the bokeh area, a bit like their Simera line.
Iím not a big fan of bokeh without structure even if itís a general trend of modern photography.

I guess weíll know more with other reviewing it further.

Agree about the Simera line. Many photographers love the aesthetic, but like you, I find it a bit sterile. The new Eureka lens seems to follow this pattern, and I'm noticing a lot of chromatic aberration for an f/2 lens.

The locking infinity knob is really handy to attach and detach the lens from the camera.
Every lens should have this feature.

Never thought about this, but it does make sense!

For Leica screw mount cameras an infinity lock is a much appreciated feature, as it makes unscrewing the lens more pleasant, so you donít end up doing nothing but close focusing the lens when you are trying to remove it. But, for an M mount only lens it does seem an odd and unproductive choice.

I guess I'm the outlier because I don't mind infinity locks. I find it useful for (dramatic pause) keeping the focus set to infinity.

I wish they would make the infinity lock also work as a minimum distance focus lock. That way you would never have to worry about burning your shutter curtains.

I like infinity locks too, it looks good and I secretly hope it flares.

I had few lenses with it but I find it serves as a useful handy knob.
