p.1 #1 · Disassembly – Voigtlander 50mm F1 Nokton VM lens

@yukosteel has recently shared a comprehensive teardown of the Voigtlander 50mm f/1 Nokton lens in M-mount.

The Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1 Nokton shows innovative mechanical and optical design, particularly evident during a partial disassembly for cleaning, though according to Yuri, caution is strongly advised against attempting such intricate disassembly due to the risk of damaging the lens's optical alignment, emphasizing the lens's remarkable complexity and the necessity of professional servicing for any optical maintenance.

Here is an excerpt from the article's conclusion:

"Voigtlander 50mm F1 Nokton lens is one more sophisticatedly engineering Cosina gem with impressively complex and durable mechanical build. Optically it's excellent lens with unique though more modern Nokton rendering with great sharpness wide open and beautiful OOF blur. I personally like how it's performing comparing to Voigltander 50mm F1.2 Nokton (M mount) and that extra power of blur is useful and worth the extra weight (not sure about price though).
Any optical DIY maintenance is highly NOT RECOMMENDED because it's not possible to open optics without completely ruining proper optical centering. Minor mechanical DIY maintenance of the aperture control ring and infinity calibration mechanics is possible though."

After reading the disassembly article again, I figured out that it's actually possible and not too hard to tweak shims for rangefinder accuracy. It's a tad trickier than adjusting the simple mount shims, but it's still doable to access and tweak the RF shims if your lens isn't calibrated well.

Good news! The rear optics of Nokton 50mm F1 can be dismounted for aperture area cleaning without risk of optical decentering. Well, if I knew that earlier it would save me hours of time on front area re-calibration, but at least it's discovered now. I've updated article with more details and pictures.

That's for aperture cleaning! Also, having the ability to adjust the RF shims is invaluable for this lens. All of my copies weren't properly adjusted, but it should be a relatively straightforward fix adding shim(s) if it backfocus and removing if it frontfocus.

I wonder if the previous CV 50/1.1 Nokton allows for such RF adjustment.
