I have a7c, while I love the camera
few things which I don't like much are
the grip - I have tried a7iii and it feels much better in hand
if you are gonna use bigger lenses they will handle better with a7iv
viewfinder is ok, better in a7iv
I went from A7C to A7IV, and now I’m back to the smaller body with an A7CR and couldn’t be happier. The A7IV was nice for the extra physical controls, but I missed the smaller form factor of the C series and realized I was taking my A7IV out less just because it is a bigger camera. It’s not a massive difference in size or weight, but when you’re carrying a camera for a couple hours or going for a hike it’s definitely noticeable.
The improved AI autofocus, more responsive touchscreen, and the better IBIS were instantly noticeable compared to the A7IV. For those reasons alone I would always choose the A7CII over the A7IV.
If you really like your Fuji joystick, go for the a7iv, which has one (a7C2 doesn’t); if you are looking for good autofocus, go for the a7C2, which is more like like the a7RV
ive been shooting the a7iv for 2 years now and its been faultless. i have the a6300 as backup camera. a few months ago i tryed the a7c2 as i was thinking of replacing my a6300. the a7c2 is not small, in fact its a little brick, the a7iv evf hump is the only difference and i use a botton extension as even the a7iv is to small. i have the 28 75 g2 tamron and wouldnt even consisder using it on the a7c2 with no ectra bottom plates.
Thanks for all the helpful suggestions. I ended up with an A7Cii. So far, I'm enjoying shooting with it. I do feel that I either need to get a bottom plate or a thumb grip to address the dangling pinky

Congratulations. So what lens did you end up with, the Tamron G2? How does it feel on the A7CII body? Personally I’ve tried to limit my lenses to smaller size. For a midrange zoom I originally started with the Sigma 28-70/2.8 DG DN on my original A7C but have just moved over to the newer/smaller Sony FE 24-50/2.8 G. For how I shoot the reduced zoom range works for me and I’ve parked my Sony small G primes at the curb for now and probably will sell them. I have other primes I will use at 20mm and 85mm for a three lens kit.
Wish you the best and if have any questions or need help let us know.
I have a Tamron G2. While the lens itself felt lighter than my Fuji 16-55 lens, on the A7Cii body, it feels a bit longish. After I get a bit more comfortable with the body, I plan to look for a diminutive prime lens that may fit the smaller profile of the A7Cii better. I do feel that the Tamron G2 gives me a good range, so for now that is a keeper.
I know that I'm in the minority, but having switched from the A7IV to the A7CR I'm surprised what lenses I'm willing to have on it, and I haven't put the grip on once. Granted my fingers are pretty skinny (but fairly large hands/fingers), but I'll happily walk around all day with the 16-35 GM2, the 70-200 G2 Macro, or even the 70-200 G2 Macro with a 2x teleconverter. I can fit both lenses and the TC easily into my Wotancraft 3.5L.
That's my walk round everyday do everything kit, but if I want to go super small I can throw the 40mm 2.5 on there and take a much smaller sling or put some clothes/snacks in the 3.5L for a long day out with just the 40mm.
I like my A7CII. As a small full frame camera it has its own niche below the "full size" A7 cameras. Size difference is not huge in numbers, but in real life it is considerable, especially when used with a small lens (say 24 GM or smaller). I have the Smallrig bottom plate to improve grip, and I think ergonics is ok with any lens up to 24-70 GM II.
I do not wish my A7CII to be A7Cr. 33mpx is enough for this kind camera, and as using A7rV as my "main camera". I actually prefer the lower resolution sensor for anything except aplications where extremely high resolution is needed. I find A7CII puts out better straight of the camera raw files than A7rV - or then it is just me
That being said, if one dos not care about the size, A7IV is probably better choice. Main reason being EVF. A7CII EVF is just barely adequate and the rear screen is From Sony 2017 parts bin. Low resolution, small and not very bright. As a photographer I also wish rear LCD to tilt up/down - very important in street photography. I use the side tilting screen very rarely.
