Late winter afternoon light made for some interesting contrast. I was going for the clouds and hillside as a landscape, but then spotted the eagle when I zoomed into 600mm.
Jim you nailed this composition!!!!
The lone tree with an eagle on top just locks the entire foreground to the frame! The scale, depth and emotion are all locked in by it! The fog is just super!
So well done Jim!

This is amazing, Jim. I had to scroll through the image on my laptop and it just kept rewarding me as I followed to the bottom. I would print this large and hang it on the wall. Well done
Beautiful image even without the eagle, but seeing it in it's perch in isolation really kicks the impact up. The sheen on the water is also gorgeous.
Cheers,
Brent

Gero..a blast from our past at Conowingo long ago! I miss Lou(RIP)! He was a great contibutor to FM and a great guy! As you are also brother!
Thanks for all the kind words guys. It was one of those unexpected compositions that evolved. My first level goal in shooting eagles is close-ups of the birds, showing all their beauty and detail. Action shots take it up a big notch, but putting that together with an interesting landscape is the ultimate goal for me now. This shot was one of the best in that regard from our trip up to Harrison Mills last weekend even though the eagle is quite a small element.

I might offer a smidge brighter tonal value to the eagle's head. As noted, it is a quite small element, so it might benefit from a judicious bump. With the fog bank that is much brighter, and the spec highlights of the water ... I think you've got some latitude for a kiss, or two.
So, my first look on my 27" screen I saw a very pleasing 3 1/2 layer image with gorgeous tonal quality and textural qualities. Then I figured I'd look at the next picture and and saw the liquid and reflection and eagle then the erie foggy cloud and then kept looking upward (scrolling) to see it was all one image!!
Mindblowing comp, absolutely love every layer and dimension in this one Jim
It's a vote from me

Great versatility. Easy to lock in on your perceived goal of getting close ups and miss the scenic, even with a big lens. Very nice work and composition. Moving shot.
