Well, seems like Molson's source was off a bit.

Still, the firmware is out (as seen int he other thread) and man that's a lot of new features.

Nikon has never managed to keep a high-profile camera under wraps up until mere hours before the official announcement. NR usually gets the heads up a few days prior along with a detailed spec list, or one of the influencers leaks the date their NDA/review embargo expires.

CP+ isn't until Feb 22, so if a Z6III is in fact coming this month, it will probably be closer to that time. Nikon also likes March/April announcements, but hopefully it's sooner than that.

The last significant announcement probably is perceived as being better so Canon and Nikon may want to delay their announcement as long as possible.

My guess is that tomorrow (Thu Japan time) is the last opportunity for a CP+ related announcement. Next Tue/Wed would be too close to the start of the event to be able to prevent leaks since the booth must be focusing on the new camera.

Since NR doesn’t seem to hear anything concrete my guess is that there will be no Z6III announcement in February.

Dear Nikon,

Seeing how you just purchased RED, can we please get the Z6III with open-gate 6K 24/30/60/120P internal RED Code RAW recording and 32-bit float audio?! You'd own Panasonic's S5II/X audience in a heartbeat!

Thanks,
S1/GH6-owner, Nikon-wannabee

I feel that something will come before 10-April.

Just a feeling.

Cheers,

Hopefully it'll arrive with a global shutter and internal REDCode RAW!

That first spec magically turns it into a 6 grand camera, which this product will be tiered out of the demographic it's aimed at.

Would love to see Nikon go the Panasonic route and split their lines with stills-centric and video-centric models like the S1/S1H. So a Z6III for the stills market and a Z6III, er, "H" for those wanting video with the global shutter and REDCode RAW. Prices TBD. From 2022...

I think anything with a global shutter will just be a completely different model so they can market it differently because of the price premium of the global shutter tech. They want the camera in as many peoples hands. It's not going to be in the same hemisphere with another camera with a 6 grand MSRP. Make a Z10 or something and make that the class leading video camera. Z6III with open gate and 4K60 uncropped would honestly be enough for most people. Red codecs would be fine too. Find something else to add to it for a Z6IIIx for a $500 bump in price.

That seems to be what Sony is doing. Sony's best stills camera doesn't have its best video technology. Some are not happy about that.

I actually think most people are better off with Nikon making a single camera with the best they can of both stills and video. The best all around camera has the best market appeal. I think this is what Nikon has achieved with the Z8/9 cameras.

Why? Sony's global shutter camera is barely even selling. After a month Sony is desperate enough they had to knock $1000 off the price. God help the poor A93 when Sony has to put out a fw for it, bad enough that Sony made the A1 worse through fw updates and now had to pull the latest fw. Who would want to buy a camera that goes backwards with their updates .

I honestly think people just ask for new tech because they think it will dramatically make what they do better. A9III is a very niche camera to the point that it's probably a better video camera than it is a photo camera in a way.

The Z6iii has a unique way of disabling most people's critical thinking ability.

The a9III is targeted at a very specific group. Some under contract for this type of camera.

The A1 remains the highest performing non global shutter, high resolution stills camera on the market today. It's users are generaly very happy with it.

Yes, having to recall the current firmware release is not a good look for Sony. But it will be solved.

That’s pretty subjective statement no? Is that in photos and video?

The A1 doesn't even have animal eye detect in video. It's a great camera, it's not perfect, same can be said for the Z9. I'm pretty sure there are a few specs in the Z9 the A1 doesn't have and vice versa. I think the A1 only even seems like an improvement if you need like 1080P 240 slow mo.

It clearly states as a stills camera. I actually feel the statement is fair although, as always, there is room for debate! But 30fps good quality raw at 50mp has still yet to be equaled and little in the way of complaints is heard from the user base.

Only if a person really lives and dies by that 30 fps. If you don't the whole argument becomes very debatable. Same can be said about the 1/400 flash sync. There's better on paper stuff, but if you know what you're doing I'd rather just save the extra money via a Z8/Z9, which I did.
