“I doubt this lens sells significant quantities, but for those who buy it, they truly are getting a zoom that is at least as good as, perhaps better than, the prime.” Roger Cicala Lensrentals.com
Nikon 120-300mm f2.8E FL ED SR VR lens in nice shape bought new from B&H Oct. 16, 2020. Comes with a Chiaro Pro 112mm 99-UVBT UV filter with brass ring, a so-so computer printed Zemlin lens hood (they want $579 for another stock hood), plastic center pinch 112mm lens cap (the cloth cover that comes with it is a PETA), another altered foot, an FTZ2, a scratched up old Wimberley arca Swiss plate that’s altered to keep a Z9 w/FTZ bolted together as one so there’s no stress on any of the mounts as the kit is moved around with a mono pod or on tripod, everything else that came with it new, including unused case, strap, cloth lens cover, foot and even the Nikkor box it was shipped to me in. $6499 to me gets it all shipped if I have to ship it.
All my Nikon gear including this, a great 400mmE, the last Sigma 180 macro lens, a Z8 and a Z9 is going to go. I can no longer justify the expense of keeping 2 systems up to date (my 401K is shrinking to dangerously low levels) and I’ve decided to go with the smaller Sony that I use for indoor sports, portraits... Yes I know there will be regrets. If you shoot any outdoor sports or want a medium to long zoom for anything this f2.8 is as good as it gets. Day or night it produces incredible photos. Covers half a field on a good day with a high MP body. It was amazing with the old D4 or D850. But it’s another world with the Z9. If you don’t mind shooting at f4 I have a 1.4 TCiii that’ll have it outshine the old 200-400mms while doing 170-420mm. All without having your muscle memory all fouled up by using the backward and less sharp Sigma Sports zoom.
Think this is the last of the Nikon f mount lenses and they went all out. Out of stock every place I looked. Boy I’d love to do a face to face sale. It’s like selling off one of my kids. But I won’t say which one of the 6. If you’re serious looking. Let’s talk.
"First, like every law, Roger’s Law that Zooms Are Never as Good as Primes has at least one very expensive exception. At one of its focal lengths. This zoom is ‘prime good’ at 300mm.
Second, we learned that the Nikkor AF-S 120-300mm f/2.8 lens is spectacularly good optically, particularly at the long end, which is probably the most important place to be spectacularly good optically."

No internal dust that I can see with a flashlight. So if there's any it's microscopic.
