Black water diving is becoming a rage in scuba diving world during the last several years. I finally got to do one as not every place is equipped to do it. Basically instead of usual night dive on a reef, you do night dive in the middle of deep sea with
strong light source hanging down from surface. My dive operator set up strong light source between 10-25 meters and we just hang out to see what showed up. The light would attract a lot of animal from the deep that usually are not seen during routine reef diving and after almost 40 years of diving on and off, I was able to see some animals that I have never seen before.

I used Nikon Z8, Nikon 60/2.8G, FTZ adapter, Nauticam housing, Sea $ Sea YS-D2 main strobe and Inon S2000 as filled strobe.

Any information you can provide about the brilliant colors would be appreciated. Bioluminescence, UV lighting, etc.?

Impressive work!
I have never seen any of these species and will probably never see them in their ecosystem so thanks a lot for sharing!

These were all shots with Sea and Sea YS-D2 main strobe and Inon S2000 fill strobe (my 2nd YS-D2 decided to die on this trip, luckily a friend has a spare strobe. These strobes all have temperature somewhere near 5000K. I just used day light WB as a starting point and adjust a little bit more. Just standard underwater strobe for underwater photography. Focus light was a Weefine Solar Flare 7000 light which is a bit warmer than day light.

Super cool! I've only shot while free diving (& that was a while ago), the only "black water" being in Norway in November in dry suits. I thought that was cool, but nothing compared to this set. I hope you do more & keep posting them!

thank you. I used to do a lot of macro photography underwater but kind of switched over to wide angle for most dives in the last several years (part of it is the location where I went as well). This is the first trip where it is 100% macro photography in the last 9-10 years I think.
