Had a pretty sweet morning last week, for only the second time did I spot and get a few shots of an American Bittern. It was still pretty dark as I sat there all huddled up in the cattails and just as the sun began to poke it head out, this guy came flying into the bushes on the opposite of the pond. After a few minutes it came out and started its hunting sequence.

I've been waiting for an opportunity like this for a long time Louie, congrats buddy for getting rewarded with this wonderful encounter!
Love the images, sweet success
Extremely COOL set Louie, and I love the last one, and it looks like he's got a rope fish of some variety.
So, you not only got a cool shot of a cool bird but a cool fish too, hence the extreme coolness of the set. Coolness squared?
If I say cool again, I might break the forum record for most use of the word cool in a single post...how cool would that be?

Great find Louie! That's a pretty bird, I've never seen one before. Like the colors in the beak. Thanks for posting these.
Greg
Thank very much Greg, appreciate it. They're a very unique bird and for me at least very difficult to spot, their camo works well.

American bitterns can hide in plain sight and are very difficult to find unless they move. You did an outstanding job getting these wonderful shots. Your patience paid off.

Thanks very much John, and yes that was frosting to have got a few shots of it with a mouthful, not exactly sure what that was.

Appreciate it Karl, thanks. This is only the second time I've gotten an opportunity to capture a few images of a Bittern, so I was happy.
