no.

idk why this technique keeps popping up as if it's a 1:1 replacement for using a specialized lens line the Plena.. this technique has very limited use case and requires too much time and ideal situations to get right.

Especially when there is now such a powerful Bokeh emulator built into LightRoom to handle just the DOF effect.

You are correct in your base opinion that none of the options, (including the technique I tested out for Bokeh Balls) fully emulate the characteristics and rendering provided by the Plena. It is a special lens which will earn a place of deserved regard in the photographic community.

this also applies to what you've been doing to stir up this thread. you state that "Sony xxx can also do this round bokeh corners with little vignetting" but you conveniently ignore that the Plena does this _effortlessly_ without relying on software correction...none of this cropping and rearranging the background lights or whatever to achieve the same effect.

look, the Sony glass are amazing in their own right...but what Nikon achieved with the Plena shouldn't be discounted at any capacity...let's just hope that further raises the bar on how camera/lens manufacturers design their lenses: to rely on true optical design prowess and not rely too much on in-camera corrections without being too expensive.

Just do these 7 simple steps and you too can fake it till you make it!! Sony is actually better if you REALLY think about it...have you REALLY thought about it yet?

You really need to stop being so sensitive and insecure. I did prove that my technique produced nice round Bokeh Balls, almost no vignetting, and sharpness edge to edge. I posted examples. I never said it could replace the Plena. In fact I explicitly said that it couldn't, and that my exercise was not a challenge to the unique character of the Plena.

I posted my experiment to a different thread because I though some might find it interesting and useful. I only linked to it, and posted examples here on specific request to do so.

Why do you feel so threatened. The time when Nikon was years behind in mirrorless are in the past as I have frequently said. Get over it. This level if insecurity is not such a good look.

I got the lens Wednesday but was busy and/or the weather was horrible. The weather wasn't the best yesterday. We went out and snapped some photos with it. I've only post processed this one shot. It got all the photos in focus.

Last time I checked this is an IMAGE thread. Cut the old man bickering and post more pics, y'all. If you don't own the lens, hush up (me included, leaving now )

I tried the Plena lens for a sports assignment this weekend.

I have found the focus speed to be good, sharpness is excellent. This image is F5

That is a great capture. At F5, a lot in focus, and giving this super real feeling.

P.S. Man, he can jump!
