When I saw the subject "Just some macro shots" and that you posted them I knew I would see more than simple macros. You have outdone your self with this superb set and you got my vote.
How are you getting so close? Tubes, close up filter (lens) or something else?
Morris
Morris,
Not sure what Ronny's technique is, but I do know that the OM System 90mm f/3.5 Macro has a 2:1 magnification ratio, and gives a 180mm FOV with minimum focus distance of less than 9 in. That will get you in pretty tight!
Ronny clearly knows how to use it's potential!

Thank you Greb,
Most of these were done with long zooms, both Sony and M43. This is why I asked.
For my Sony zooms, I usually use tube
either 10mm or 16mm on 200-600 and 100-400 Gm
sometimes without if I need more light
No close up filter
I also have tubes for Olympus but haven't used them yet
Greb: I don't own a 90 olympus but I have borrowed it from a friend on a few occasions and have come to the conclusion that I will hold off on getting it for now .. 60mm macro works well
I did get the 40-150 f2.8 + MC-14 and MC-20 instead,
let's see if I get the 90 next year , It's a great lens but pretty expensive
For dragonflies and some frog pictures etc. I have a few good places to find them .. usually the motive is 5-10 feet away
the frog images, if you sit still for a while, you can almost touch them
they are very curious after a while .. so you can pretty much use any lens with a good closest focusing distance
here it works well with zooms if you have them some distance away
both 40-150 and 100-400 olympus have quite good closest focusing distance 0.7m and 1.3m
on the sony 100-400 is 0.93cm which is very good, a decent magnification also
worse is with the 200-600 which has a closest focusing distance of 2.4m
Karl: The robberfly is stacked with the Olympus stacking program in the camera 8 images you can have up to 15 images stacked in the camera

Ronny, I hate to drag this out more but I have a keen interest in your reply to this...
What extension tubes do you use with the 200-600mm? I've looked at all kinds of reviews including the Kenko and have been afraid of putting a plastic tube on that heavy beast. A lot will say "metal mount" in the spec sheet, but the reviewer ends up finding a plastic shell with a thin chrome plate on the mount. Some wobble fiercely and leak light. Wondering your experience and which ones you have? Can't argue with your results, that's for certain!

I did buy the those expensive kenko tubes .. returned
tried 3 different set and all equally bad
poor fit on the lens and camera body on both the A9 and A7r III
Sometimes even AF stopped working
Bought Meike MK-S-AF3A which works much better and much cheaper

Thanks a million for the detailed fast reply Ronny, I owe you a beer if your ever in my neck of the woods. I was looking at the Meike from what other reviewers said also but still wasn't sure. I think I saw Tony N use one on the 200-600 in a vid a long while back, but he hadn't tried any others to compare to at the time. Your images and comment clinches it for me. Thanks for saving me the pain of sorting through the losers.

Hi Ronny. IMHO your images should never be described as " Just some macro shots ". They simply never are !! Just my opinion These are exceptional images ! All are fantastic but I really like the first 5 shots. I think it's the beautiful blue color. Easily earned my vote.

Holy smokes! Marvelous shots. Love the first five....that creamy, green background and the razor sharp details nicely composed make all the magic! Well done!

Ronny ..... pretty fam-dancy shooting my friend. Presentation skills are killer in this set
#10 a Robber Fly? is off the charts on detail and 3D like looks, assuming a focus stack on this one? Wow!!
#2 and #5 Jewel Wings? are stunning and love the arched perch!
#9 is an interesting and amazing creature, sweet image as well.
Hmmm hard not to fall in love with #14 for color and details but the menacing and look and framing of that eye in the last takes the show for me
YGMV, well earned just beautiful!!

These are incredible, Ronny! You did an amazing job, all the way around. What stands out to me the most is the clarity of detail in the shots done with both the 60mm and 90mm macro lenses -- and your top notch job of processing all of these.
Very nice work!
