Z9 Z 180-600
I almost bought the Z 100-400 instead of this 186. I've seen absolutely nothing from that 100-400 that makes me think I made the wrong decision.

I do also have the 100-400 and have no inclination to part with it - mainly because of the close focus capability, lighter weight and slightly faster aperture. I have found it to be a reasonable substitute for image grabs in outdoor activities involving people.
However, for small or distant birds or wildlife, the 180-600 is decidedly the better choice. Especially, since it seems to work unexpectedly well with the 1.4x converter.
All of these images are taken with the 1.4x converter at 840mm, Nikon Z7ii.

Testing out the bird AF on the latest Zf firmware...felt just about as responsive as it did on the Z8. Maybe not quite as quick to adjust fine focus on movement, but same acquisition speed and stickiness.

Found out there's a mated pair of barred owls at a nearby park. No chicks currently (possible this years set already fledged) but looking forward to revisiting this pair.
