Thanks! I have also acquired and played with multiple 50mm character lenses. I also have the CV Heliar classic 50/1.5 & 50/2, Topcor-S 5cm f2 (Panda version) & 5cm f2.8 (Heliar type), Tanaka Kogaku Tanar H.C 5cm F2 (Sonnar type) and Canon 50/1.5 LTM. I like the Sonnetar 50/1.3, CV Heliar classic (both versions but f1.5 version is my favorite of the 2) and Topcor-S quite a bit. They each have their nice traits and some imperfections for my purposes. Tanar 5cm F2 is lovely at close range but I don't like it a lot at longer distances. Overall I prefer modern lenses with classic design over old legacy lenses....Show more →
Yeah that’s what I end up realizing only recently after having tested quite a bit of legacy lenses. I have a M9 but it’s quite recent, before that I tried everything I could in M42 lenses and legacy Nikon lenses on my now sold A7s ii.
And I sold most of them and tried again with ltm lenses now that I owned an M camera(it was far more expensive to do sadly),
Only to realize that indeed I prefere as you said new lenses with classic design and wish companies were more bold in that regard.

I have lots of photo Albums in Google Photos taken with my Sony A7C (vast majority), Sony A7R, Sony A9, Sigma fp and Fujifilm X-S10, so sharing the album links here. They are ordered from the wider lenses to longer. I no longer have the SuperTriplet Perar 24/4 or the Aporis 135/2.4. With Aporis I really liked the IQ but didn't get along well with the mechanics/handling and couldn't reach infinity with my copy. In hindsight it would have been better to keep them but I lost interest in these lenses around 2017 and regained interest in a much bigger way again in 2022. I'm still keeping all the other lenses used here except those 2.
Wow, Juha, this is absolutely amazing! I'm thrilled to explore all these galleries for hours now. Thanks a million for providing such easy access to these samples. I love the 75 Sonnetar, 57 Petz and new Apollon 36/1.3 images the most!

I just received the MS Aporia 24/2, and I must say, it lives up to Bastian's description. The lens seems to exhibit significantly lower field curvature, or maybe the FC's shape is different compared to the Apoqualia 28's. I'm excited to thoroughly test it out. In my opinion, the images it produces are much more visually appealing compared to the 28/2. It's practically a 25mm lens with a diagonal field of view of 81 degrees, similar to the Loxia. What's even more impressive is its ridiculously small size and my copy with the Urushi finish only weighs 39 grams.
I was thinking about adding the "Summilux-M 24mm f/1.4 ASPH" 6-bit code to it. It would likely reduce vignetting substantially.
First RF alignment test and it passed!

Thanks very much Fred! My top favorites among MS-Optics lenses from the ones I have owned/used are Apollon 36/1.3, Petz 57/2 and Apoqualia 28/2-II as of now and I also like Sonnetar 50/1.3 and Xenomax 50/3.5 a lot too but I think 57/2 trumps them as a do-everything lens in ~50mm range since it works great for wide open bokeh/rendering as well as stopped down corner-to-corner sharp shots. I never tried the wider ones than 24mm (f4 Perar) as I think those might not work so well for my typical use of these lenses (walk-around shooting). 73/1.5 is great too but I use longer focal lengths much less often.

This is awesome, Juha! Thanks for collecting all of these in one spot. Not sure how onerous it would be, but it would be great to see similar for the various other lenses you have, too (Voigtlander, etc.). I have dug through your posts in past lens threads to find samples, but it's time consuming to find them.
Not sure what the best way would be to organize so it would all be easily accessible, unless the post was made into a sticky?

Hi Ron, Thanks very much! Problem with Google Photos is that there is no way to organize albums into folders or into other albums so basically have to open them one by one and copy the links. Even the search features in Google Photos leave a lot to be desired. I may have too many albums with Voigtländer lenses as I have had a lot of them but I'll see what I can do

So how do you like it compared to the 28mm 1.7?
Although the Apoqualia 28/2 enjoys a big fan base, I strongly favor the Aporia 24/2 due to its more manageable field curvature alone. In comparison to the Apoqualia 28/1.7 I tested, my Aporia 24/2 copy appears sharper off-axis at smaller apertures as well.
While it may not be perfectly suited for the rangefinder, I find its focal length to be closer to 25mm, and using the 28mm framelines with a bit of extra room doesn't bother me. Considering its compact size and lightweight design, it delivers excellent rendering at wide apertures and maintains high resolution when stopped down.

That is pretty much my conclusion when comparing those as well.

Aside from the latest 50/3.5, the 24/2 strikes me as the most interesting from the images I've seen thus far.
Odd that few speak of the 135. IIRC, it incorporates a quartz element that Miyazaki san was able to secure from Canon. Shame it's not RF coupled, though.

There was an RF coupled version as well.
But honestly, if you try to use a 135mm 2.4 lens with the rangefinder you have lost the control over your life.

Not even with an Visoflex?
With Visoflex a rangefinder coupling is irrelevant.
But compared to a camera with IBIS using a 135mm lens on an M camera is also a pain and I personally try to avoid that, so no.
p.2 #16 · MS-Optics lenses Image and Discussion Thread
Absolutely, shooting with the RF at 135mm, especially at f/2.4, can be a bit unpredictable. Personally, I tend to stop down my Leica 135/4 to at least f/5.6 and also use focus bracketing to ensure better results in good light. However, I find the LV option much more preferable due to the RF's tiny frameline, making composition easier.

Hey Bastian,
Have you managed to calibrate the lens for RF accuracy on the 35/1.4 Apoqualia? It appears to share a similar mechanical design with the new 36/1.3 Apollon. As for the MS 24/2 and MS 57/2 Petz, adjusting them is a breeze; you just need to rotate the ring with the two circular holes.
