For my landscape kit, I may well end up with the Sony 12-24. I remain uncertain about the Tamron 12-20, though plan to use it more critically over the next few weeks and make a final decision.

When I was still shooting APS-C with my A6500 I had the SEL 10-18 F4, and I learned that I didn't shoot that many wide landscapes wider than 20 mm FF. The vast majority of my landscape images are in the 24-50mm range.
So when I switched to FF a few years back I completely skipped the 16-35 range to avoid frequent lens changes. I now use FE 20-70 F4 as my landscape/travel workhorse (with several manual landscape primes) and for long time used 20 mm as my widest focal length, which is enough for 95% of the shots. It is only occasionaly that I realy would like a wider lens.
Recently I decided to add the small and lightweight FE 16 F1.8 G as an UWA landscape addition that can double for night sky/astro/northern lights. I think it supplements my FE 20-70 F4 perfectly with a wider option and fast for night sky.
I have briefly considered the FE 16-35 F4 PZ, knowing that from all reviews the IQ seems to be very good, but I know I would realy hate the power zoom, and for me an UWA landscape lens should also be bright enough for occasional night sky / astro / Northern lights.
So if I wanted a landscape UWA zoom it would have to be f/2.8 and than the compact FE 16-25 F2.8 or Samyang/Schneider 14-28 F2.8 would be a serious contender to supplement my FE 20-70 F4.

The 16-35/4 PZ has worked well for me in a landscape kit. It is surprisingly great optically, and the small size and very light weight make it extremely enjoyable in the field, the way it balances toward the camera is wonderful. The power zoom toggle switch never has to be touched if one does not like it, as there is an electronic zoom ring as well (the focal length you are zoomed at shows in the EVF).

It’s a fine lens. I have it on one body and the 24-105 f/4 on another. Together they cover 95% of my travel and landscape needs.
For these purposes I rarely need more than f/4; in fact, most of the time I use f/8 or smaller aperture. The only situation where I find it lacking is indoor architecture where a tripod is prohibited or impractical, but even then f/4 does an adequate job.

“Sponger” is the word! That’s exactly how the zoom ring feels, yet it never stops you from getting to any focal length. To me it’s really a non-concern.
