Heads up. Im in exactly the middle of a big gig so probably not going to do it now but later in week. Nice to hear what's up
Also side note on Angelbird Type A reader . Been downloading repeatedly and this thing does not heat up your cards and seems quite fast. Im thrilled the heat up of cards that alone makes it worth the cost. I had a card in for like 2 hours , warmed up a little. Ill sell my Pro Grade reader now

I'm on it! ( Love this lens BTW)
BTW, for those of you with the ability to apply Sony firmware updates with the SD card , I'm guessing this applies to Sony lens firmware updates too?
Now from the hot dog seat. This maybe the best overall lens Sony actually makes given that it's great from 70 to 200mm. Thats not easy for me to say as I test lenses but seriously not BS or fanboy talk this is a lens almost everyone should have in their bag. This job im doing right now is about 15 to 20 thousand images in a few days and Sony has nothing better at all for it. This lens screams I used to rent the original version that's not even close to the optics of Version II. I shoot this job in crop mode at 200mm mostly and it rarely misses the image quality standards. Fast focus and deadly accuracy. And I hate zooms so big comment from me. Get this lens

Just updated the lens. It didn't seem to break anything, so I consider it to be a success.
I realize that firmware updates can largely be to correct problems and bad code; but, it sure would be nice to learn more detail about what real enhancements have been made (if any), beyond such problem corrections.

Totally Agree. Be nice to know what we are walking into

This lens certainly brought me back in the 70-200 zone again. No matter how much I enjoy primes, these GM Ver II zoom lenses can't be beat for event deliverables.

GM lens update complete and successful, the old school way aka with Sony A1 and M1 Mac running latest macOS Ventura v. 13.4.1. Quick and easy but still would like to try updating my lens via the new SD Card firmware update one day.
Has anybody updated their GM 70-200II via their SD card + camera?

I've asked a few times, but no response yet. I don't have a Sony camera with SD card firmware update feature to test. 🤷🏽♂️
The Sony update instructions have no mention of an SD card option, and indeed require you to remove all SD cards from the camera, so I'd assume it's not possible

Just another data point here, I updated mine a minute ago, using USB cable and a Windows PC, no problems.
Not sure why it says when the update is complete to remove the battery to complete the update. Their verbiage in their updates always leaves me a little wanting, heh. Oh well, it works, that is what matters.
Testing in my typical dark office environment, there "might" be some improved low light AF performance, it locks on very fast even on dim objects sitting deep into my bookshelf, which normally it would jump around a bit in this lighting. (that's my go-to torture test, heh)
All in all, this lens was already soooo good, any improvements at this point might seem like gilding the lily, but hey, I'll take it!
