No, I do not trust Nikon to buy into their early release gear, but as noted I've got plenty of Nikon gear going back to my Nikon F5, F100, D800E, D850, and a few high dollar lenses to include my beloved AF-S 17-35 that I bought in 2000 and still working in 2023. I also own their AF-S 70-200 F2.8E, and 24mm F1.4G lens, plus a few others.

I'm sure I don't go back as far as your or have near the amount of gear you do, but I've given Nikon some pretty good coin.

With that, I'm very much at peace. Are you

Funny, I don't remember mentioning "lenses".

Anyway, we heard the same deniers at DP review when they tried to convince others that the D800/E focus issue didn't exist until they did as confirmed by Nikon. My D800 certainly did, and why/how I ended up with an issue free D800E.

And the fact is Nikon isn't recalling a camera because there isn't an issue.

Peace

I'm just pointing out that I think you're being overly critical of Nikon.

A good news is that since D800 and D600 days when Nikon was slow to respond or not responding as much as a person may expect, in the past 7-8 years, Nikon is much more proactive about recalling and repairing. Nikon asked me to bring back my 400/2.8S TC to them to replace the TC toggle switch because
there were some field report of early units having stiff toggle switch. I told them mine was perfectly ok but they insisted that I should have it replaced anyhow so I set up an appointment to bring in my lens and waited their for may be 45 minutes. I will do the same thing with my Z8 when I have time.
So Nikon of D800/D600 days is quite different from now, I think. It also helped that I had neither D600 or D800 but I have or had more than 10 Nikon bodies, usually bought when first released, very often on launch day and so far so good. Service has been faster and more responsive than other 3 brands of cameras that I own.
I think it is time to move on, Nikon appears to have learned its lessons. What Nikon did or did not do during that time really
has nothing in common with what Nikon is doing today.

No, not in this world today Andrew. I am at peace when I am in nature.

As I looked back on the years of nature photography outings, the most interesting part has been watching the nature, what it does and how it works. Learning about nature. That's fascinating.

I just received few days ago so I am not gonna say things change that much

Anyone who has no issues mounting lenses on their Z8 and not planning to send it in?

It took Leica 6 months to repair my SL. It took Zeiss 4-5 months to fix my off center 21/2.8 Loxia.
Also we are talking about Nikon recognizing problem and is more proactive and takes initiative to correct the problem.
How many people complain about D600 and D800 and what was Nikon's response.
How many people complain about Z8 problem or even noticed that there was a problem before Nikon made an announcement and a recall. If you don't see any difference, hmmm.....

I did not mention Z8 ... it was my experience with Nikon Repair Service...
Is good to see Nikon is doing what they do, recalling this cameras. I guess this should add more trust to this company, as they don't try to hide some small issues which some people could have with Z8

Nikon replaced my TWO D600 cameras ( they were 1 year old ) with new D610. But long repair period is not best situation to be in... So I have a right to mention this

The speed of service, responsiveness, quality of service at Nikon Thailand vs Nikon Australia vs Nikon USA may or may not be the same. My suspicion is US may be at somewhat a lower rating, but that is my bias based on reading other’s experiences every now and then, so that is just that, a suspicion. I am about to start a lens repair process with NY service, so I sure will have my own opinion on this matter afterwards.

If my local Nikon service center says that they need to wait for spare part, it can take weeks to months just like anywhere else.
Just like my experience with some other brands. However, I never mentioned anything about service center and only talked
about the way Nikon now takes a more proactive approach to acknowlege a problem and comes up with a solution much
faster and much more satisfactory than in the past. Main discussion was based on D600/D800 fiasco vs Z8 now.
I have to say that this is a major improvement. Then the conversation got sidetrack into service repair in general.

All I can say is that Nikon makes a batch of one product then the production chain moves to a different product and it
might be weeks or months before they will come back to produce more particular product. Sometimes spare parts do run out and
it will take awhile to get more parts depending on their manufacturing schedule or delivery from their vendors.
I certainly waits months sometimes for service. But then I don't have any better experience from other brands that I own
either. So it could be that they are equally bad across the industry or normal in this industry, perhaps. If Nikon's competitor
offer faster turnaround time consistantly, may be this is something that Nikon has to improve but I don't have that information.

That's odd. Saw a post of a guy that flew into LA and took it directly to the service center. Got a call 3 days later it was done come pick it up. Hmmm doesn't sound like a parts delay to me.

The second hand information I have is that they are installing a shim behind the mount.

I’m just happy they are addressing the issue , these things aren’t uncommon unfortunately. Remember the first x100 and the stuck aperture blade issue , or the first few Sony mirror less models with their ever decaying rear screen coatings.

Mine doesn’t have any issues mounting lenses , so I’m undecided if I will send it in or not. Days without a camera is torture , I still have a D800e but only Konica and Takumar lenses. Meh , guess I should grab some f-mount glass since it’s so cheap.

Really? But the "faulty" model is completely repairable so why on earth would they need to put out a Z8II? The consequent production runs will have no faults.

Every first run Nikon camera and lens that I have purchased has been faultless and I have had *a lot* of first runs cameras and lenses.

None of my cameras had any faults and were first run productions:

So are you saying that you don't believe Nikon - that your Z8 has no faulty part - and that you think that Nikon's own Service Advisory is in fact just another example of the Deep State out to take down Nikon ?

Things are pretty weird on these Nikon forums

Oh, so they are installing a shim behind the mount now - that must mean it is a real fault then and not just a 'supposed fault' as you put it.

They should have called the whole thing a "feature improvement" - rather than a service advisory. This new feature will allow you to mount your lenses on the camera .

Nikon PR: "Our customers loved the fact that we didn't include a shutter and that we didn't include autofocus in the first releases so we though we would make them even happier and not include the ability to mount their lenses. We would issue a service advisory (it's hardware upgrade so we can't just issue a new FW version) and add this feature later".

I get what you mean. It is a good move for Nikon to be more proactive. And yes, service issue is off topic so better save for another thread.
