Nikon is recalling some Z8 cameras due to some lenses not locking onto the camera body.
I had the same problem with the Z8 it worked fine with some lenses but my 24-70 2.8 and my 85/1.8 would not lock completely. I brought the Z8 to Nikon Service in New York and they were not aware of the problem. They asked me to leave the Z8 for evaluation which I did. They repaired it with a 2 day turnaround not counting weekend. Camera is fine now. Nikon service indicated "Elevation Adjustment damaged/broken".
I would check all lenses because my other lenses locked on with no issues. Bob
When I entered the serial number of my Z8, NikonUSA told me that my camera was affected and needs to be sent in. However, prior to entering my serial number, I tried all my lenses on my Z8 and had no problem with any of them locking in place. This included: 50mm f/1.8, 85mm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.2, 14-24mm f/2.8, 24-70mm f/2.8, 70-200mm f/2.8, 105mm f/2.8 MC, 100-400mm, and 400mm f/4.5. Despite no current problems with any of these lenses, I will send in my camera. Thanks to the OP for bringing this to our attention!
I received my Z8 6 days after the orig batch. My serial number is 30064xx and it is included in the recall. I only have three Z lenses and they are all functioning correctly.
If you have a serial number larger than mine, please post it up and let us know if it is included. Just curious how many Z8's are in the wild.
I'm in. Serial No. 3007xxx.
Lenses that mounted and operated with no issues: 27-70 f4 S, MC 105 2.8, FTZ.
I haven't used any other lenses but am sending for repair to avoid future issues. So far, I am very pleased with the camera and look forward to many years of use. Back to the Z7 II for the meantime. Glad I haven't sold it yet!

Mine was recalled as well. I picked Z9 and will send it back Monday, a friend is using it this weekend. Told him to be careful of his lenses and about the recall. My 100-400 works fine on it and he is using that also, he had a shoot to do and needed a backup camera and lens.
I got my Z8 on the release day, and it says mine if affected also. I had this on my Z9 and sent it in for repair. When I got the camera back the sensor was filthy and they removed and lost the camera strap holders. I have 8 lenses along with the FTZ and 1.4x teleconverter that are working fine on the Z8. I think I will hold off for now given my previous experience.
FYI... I'd suggest you check your lenses before you choose to ship it in for the repair.
My Z8 falls within the affected range. I have an 800PF, 400 f4.5, 100-400S, 24-120S, and 28-70 f2.8... I just checked each lens for fit on the mount and AF consistency. I do not have any slippage and the fit is about as it is on my Z9 and was on my Z6II.
I will not be shipping unless I experience some issues.

bruce
The lens mount button again? I would think that most current Z8 bodies would be affected by this recall because the camera just came out less than a month...

This is what I'm going to do too, just use it until I experience any issues. Every time I try to fix what isn't broken, it always bites me back one way or another. Only thing that would suck is if I get a new lens and am excited to use it and it doesn't lock in.
Mine is affected as well but all the lenses I have seem to be mounting fine. I'll send it in after I'm back from the summer road trips. Can't risk it not making it back to me in time.
