Male with prey (pocket gopher), owlet didn't take the prey as it was too large to swallow whole so the male took it to the female who tore it apart and fed two other owlets. There were 5 owlets in this nest.
Nice shot. Not hard to believe these days that they would be nesting in a burned out tree considering all the forest fires. I had to cancel a trip to photograph Great Grey Owls due to the fires last month.

Dave, 2 yrs ago a forest fire devastated the forest where the GGO's nested. There was no breeding activity last year at all. This year I guess there must have been a good year for voles and pocket gophers. The understory of the forest is green and filled with fireweed. We were all shocked when reports of breeding were reported. 5 nests in this particular location
