Spring is returning to this part of the world and with it our Australasian gannets. A colony is establishing itself on an offshore island close to where I live in the northern suburbs of Auckland. The light was too harsh during this visit but it is not so easy a place to access so opportunities are taken as they present...

The wife and I took a little adventure to the Owensboro Airshow yesterday. First airshow outing with the 180-600. I was reviewing my images, wondering WTF wasn't I zoomed all the way in most of the time. Z8 kept hitting buffer limit quickly, I learned to wait until the planes go closer before holding down the shutter. Hot card warning was annoying as hell, but over 7000 shots, nearly all of them focus, so, can't ask for better than that.

Which card(s) are you using? Using a card that's fast and runs cool, the camera should have a very large buffer (or even unlimited if you're shooting HE* RAW files) and should not overheat. With my older/slower SanDisk CFE cards I would hit the buffer frequently, but with the ProGrade Cobalt cards it's never been an issue shooting very long bursts of BIF.
If you are running backup to SD that will affect burst rate. I agree though, the Z8 has a bottomless buffer at 20 frames per second with a good card.
