Not switching to Nikon but good for them that they are releasing a 180-600 5.6 - 6.3 for $1700. If it's any good the Z8+180-600 would be a solid bang for the buck.
I'll just wait for the A1 MKII, thank you very much.

After seeing the initial "reviews" of the new Nikon 180-600, I'm glad I kept my Sony 200-600G. Hopefully the new Megadap adapter I ordered is more reliable than the first one I had. If not, I may be in the market for a nice, used A1...

Which one have you ordered? I used to use the Megadap ETZ-21 with my FE 200-600 and the Z9 until I sold my Z9 after owning it for a year. Have yet to try the Z8. Cancelled my pre-order and decided not to keep chasing cameras when the systems I already owned were as good as I needed them to be.

Lol…. Now I’m going to have to check out the reviews. Seems new bodies are coming so there will be even better used A1 pricing shortly.

Pre-ordered the z 180-600 last night to use on my z8 - lens ships in August
Now my Sony A1 is attached to the excellent, excellent 70-200mm f/2.8 GM ii, which I love!!
Best of both worlds
- Sony A1 + 70-200mm f/2.8 GM ii
- Nikon Z8 + z 24-70mm f/2.8 S and soon, z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3
180-600 reviews/previews look fantastic, especially for the $1700 price point
Sure to be a winner for Nikon

I am very happy for Nikon shooters, they got the Z8, 180-600 and all the tele primes. I am sure the new Sony A1II will knock everybody's socks off when it comes out, for $7000 and no FW updates for 2 years.

Make that more like 3-4 years
I am sure they will give a FW update real quick if the EVF shuts off under sunlight. In all seriousness, I like my Sony stuff for the most part but Nikon has been on a roll!

If you are not happy with the performance of your Sony Alpha 1 let us know and I’m sure we can find some one to take it off your hands. I can trade you a lightly used A7RV for it. Just reach out to me.

Well - the one saving grace we have is that the 180-600 lacks some of the bells and whistles of the 200-600G. I am curious to see whether it will keep up with the Z8 and Z9 at top burst speed given the stepper motors used versus the linear motors we see in all the Sony G and GM glass. That said, I would love for Sony to offer some PF primes, but wouldn't we all?!

Even though I have the 600 GM, I use the 200-600 a lot for airshows and hummingbirds (I usually shoot hummers at close distance, the 600 GM's MFD won't do it for me). I don't understand why Nikon doesn't even put a stabilization switch on the lens. The Sony sure has more bells and whistles but its hood sucks. While it's a big deal for Nikon shooters, their 180-600 is not the lens that would remotely tempt me to look at Nikon, it's their 600 TC. If I started new now and focused primarily in sports/wildlife, I would pick the Nikon system over Sony in a heart beat for the lens selection and the more affordable price of the Z8.

I ordered another ETZ21 directly from Megadap. I bought the first one from B&H, but it failed in short order and I returned it; people on some of the forums were saying they got better support if they had purchased directly from Megadap, so I hope that's the case.

At least Nikon keeps their freaking lenses black. I like the look of the 70-180. Good for the Nikon crowd for getting a great well-rounded system.
The FE version of the 70-180 is black too :-)
Nikon does make some white lenses (or Grey as they call them), but they’re almost always special editions for the Japanese domestic market and I don’t think they’ve done one yet in Z mount (last one I recall was the 70-200VRII)

Lol, you're right about the FE version but I don't like the way the FE version looks.

Nikon Z lenses are black and they get a respectable nod, but the 'Ikea' look of some the new Z mount lenses is pretty unflattering if you ask me. Opinion of course, but Nikon makes some ugly lenses.
