Same in all things. Price is not directly corelated to enjoyment.

See it is all individual. I have spent more money in a weekend on hobbies that I have on photography in my whole life. To put that in perspective, I shoot Sony A1/GM lenses, and Leica M11 systems. Life gets crazy sometimes.
I basically amortize the cost of an item over the time I plan to use it, and then compare it to the time:cost of watching a film. Going to the theatres where I live is about 25 CAD for ~2 hours of enjoyment. I use that as my baseline for deciding if the time:cost of a hobby (ie gear) is worth it. Its not a great system in the sense that there is no objective measure of enjoyment I can use to compare purchases, but it works well enough.

Yes, of course. I lead a very clean life. Faithfull to my Wife, no drugs, no alcohol, no smoking. Best to keep life simple with such things. My vices revolve around gemstone mining in Africa, race cars, flying, surfing, diving, and off shore racing of large sailing yachts. Those can be expensive on a whole other level from photography.
Currently, I am in a partnership building the Worlds largest artificial Surf resort in Palm Desert California. Presumably it will be profitable in the long run, but right now it feels like a very expensive hobby consuming too much time and money. A foolish thing for someone in his 70s like me. We'll see...

One thing I'm wondering about is if Sony is going to bump up CFexpress Type-A speeds with A9III release. In theory, they could do it with 4.0 CFE-A update and double the throughput...

They tend to update speeds on the ports regularly so it wouldn't be surprising. It would depend on the heat/power consumption though. Given that it's hard to out run the cards we have now, it would seem a smarter approach would be to increase the buffer size so that the current cards can keep up. PCIe Gen 4 will generate more heat and dissipating that heat is an issue in a small camera.
What I would really love to see is the USB upgraded to USB4. That would massively speed up downloading files and be great for tethered shooting.
