Being newly released doesn't mean it has the best tech. Whatever is in Z8 has been in Z9 which is at least 1.5 years old, and Z9 didn't have the best tech either at the time it's released.
Now we get that out of the way, yes, Z8 is the most performance/price competitive right now. But as I mentioned earlier, Sony right now is in the phase of harvesting cash with the market share it has, while Nikon is trying to work on market share instead of short term cash return. So at this moment, you are unlikely to get what you want from Sony. Had you been trying to buy Nikon a few years ago, you would felt the same way you currently feel too.

I did pass along a couple of those to other members here on FM .

In the last 10 years, Sony has made great strides on its lens design capability. Other than some specialty area like pf, its lens design capability has caught up with Nikon, if not already exceeded.

It was a joke about Sony retreading has-been lenses instead of offering something new or unique to fill their wildlife gaps, guess the emoji didn’t convey the sarcasm.

The price of sony A1 keeps me out of touch It would be good news for me if there are more discounts on the Nikon competition

Why don't you respond to my comment about PF and built in TC's?
OK, the PF's are slow and create weird background patterns.
How many are up for a AUD27,000 lens ?
Where is the innovation in that ? Sony on the other hand managed to produce the 200-600 for around AUD2,500 and for AUD10,000 less than the Nikon 600 TC I can get a Sony 600.
The balance I am keeping for the A1ii which will no doubt have dedicated neural engine and next level autofocus - mind you I have had next level autofocus for years !!

Your proof that you have “next level” autofocus is a single series of swallows in flight? Cool, there are dozens of those posted in the Nikon Z9 forum as well. Heck, as Geoff will tell you, he’s been shooting those since the days of Nikon DSLRs. Perhaps it is slightly easier to shoot them with an A1, but it proves the point that reasonable people have been making on this forum repeatedly: the differences that exist in AF functionality across brands is small. Hyperfocusing on them is a total waste of time.

Compared to staying in Nikon forum and making stupid cheap shots like ilkka_nissila does? I think you did alright, other than claiming 200-600 is from Zeiss.

There is a unique, poisonous quality to the Sony forum. I’m not including everyone, obviously, but you’ll find far more personal insults and hyperbole than anywhere else on FM.

And more often than not, it's from non-Sony users who just can't resist trolling the forum...

So do you want me to respond in Nikon forum why ilkka_nissila's post is void of any logic and just stupid cheap shots? But on the other hand you guys want to limit the Nikon forum to yourselves. See the irony?
BTW, I don't object to bs kite's posts here in Sony forum. I only pointed out the 200-600 issue because it showed he's misinformed on this subject, and thus impacts on the implied validity of his assessments. Nothing more.

Why do all these 2nd tier camera users come over to harass Sony users?

No, it isn't total BS. Steve very graciously helped me get a brand new Sony A1 for much less than the listed retail price, $5,000 if you must know, and that was about a year and a half ago and it was from a Sony authorized dealer.

I think that "claim" was just a simple insertion of the wrong company. The lens is obviously made by Sony and is not even a Sony/Zeiss lens. I assume he meant to say Sony and just put in Zeiss by mistake.
