Who wears watches these days? I have some nice ones in my safe that I never wear anymore. Time to sell them.
The last time I wore a traditional watch on a regular basis was in the 70s.
But a smartwatch allows one to check on things without bringing out the smartphone frequently.
I still wear a watch daily. There are many times I don’t have my phone with me and the watch is just handy. Just got back from Mexico where I was in the water every day…phone just would not work in this situation.
I love watches. I have a few *mid range* ones but nothing silly. The temptation is always there to add another but I have stopped buying because I wear a smart watch almost exclusively now. I wish I could do the same with cameras. (no I don’t… )
But even as some one who likes them I’m not tempted at all by the Leica watches. I don’t find tham attractive at all.

Much rather purchase some oil stocks…much bigger uptick.
Depends. In this specific case likely yes - but the uptick I saw for example from my old M6 which I purchased in 2015 more than tripled in value since - hard to beat with any stock. Of course the value is only virtual as long as the item (or stock etc) is not sold and the money in your pocket.
This is only partially accurate. The luxury watch values went crazy -- some pieces were going for 5x MSRP about 2 -3 years ago. Then they did normalize a bit but luxury watches that are popular amongst collectors still go for 2-3x their MSRP and these models are almost impossible to get unless you have a buying history with the brand. Patek AP Richard Mille Rolex are still highly sought after albeit not all their models.

Actually the luxury watch business and values took a huge beating this past year.
The only luxury watch I ever really wanted badly is a Rolex Daytona. But I never was able to acquire the one I wanted. You see, the method of acquisition was important to me. I swore I would never buy one. I wanted to get mine by winning the 24 hours of Daytona. The winning drivers are awarded that watch. Never was able to do it. i came second and third, but never first. I fell just short. But still, I enjoyed the chase.
