I know this won't be a popular opinion amongst the Sony clan but I'd love to see the next A9 and A1 have the grip built in. I'd be good with it being identical in size to what a gripped A1 is now.

Thats where I differ but I totally understand your desire for that but let me throw the argument in that not every type of job I do or different style of photography I would or anyone else would do requires a built in grip as many times I don't need a grip at all. So im in Sonys court as a accessory.
IM honestly not sure it would buy anything either. Is it a desire to be smaller/bigger or just always there because yea it maybe a better design but this is not bad as it is. I will say this issue needs to be addressed though
The one other big problem is if you want to get your camera small for travel lets say than today its easy but a built in your hosed. That would mean no question you would need to buy a smaller camera
I agree this is a round the horn discussion as I know many of us want a gripped and many do not.

The other issue is cost. Sony is at least going to add 1000 bucks to the cost because that's what Sony does. We will get dinged no question in my mind.

The one time I do like having the detachable grip is for travel or family outings where I'm not shooting wildlife. Then I'm using smaller lenses and like being able to have a more compact camera without the grip.
So in a way I'm always a bit conflicted when I think about my preference for built-in or not. But 98% of my shooting is outdoor wildlife, handholding 400 and 600GM so the grip is essential just for hand comfort and I'd prefer it to be built-in to be better weather sealed.
But I realize I'm in the small minority wanting that and I really don't expect Sony to do a built-in grip. It also isn't any type of dealbreaker for me. I'm fine using the detachable grip if the rest of the camera is top of the pack.

I know exactly how you feel and what you shoot it would most likely help you. I think Sony should in a way revamp what they do. WE don't really need how many models we have but maybe a A1 Version II in both Gripped and Not Gripped. Yes 2 of them
Maybe a A9III actually gripped as that's really the journalist cam and I did that for awhile myself and a grip would actually help and put it more on the level as the A1 but 33mpx as that gives the MPX option
A7rV is fine like it is but maybe Version 2 get that black out better
Combine A7C and A7IV into a 33mpx with a removable type EV that you can put a cover on top and shoot like a A7c for the travel or Put on the EV finder. That would be trick and at 33mpx the world would be at its feet.
Like for them to think more as a photographer than an engineering company. Thats a complicated discussion for another time

if they do go for the gripped body it would be ideal if they also bring eND, you can see from the FR7 the body would have to be taller to house the ND mechanics but if you put a grip on the bottom it basically matches the other gripped bodies, and would bring the single unique feature that no one else managed to replicate in any way

While I really appreciate all your hard work, and the effort it took to document your fix, etc, in the end it just scared me into buying the Neewer clone grip for my A7RV that has been getting very complimentary reviews. I know... wimp, right? But hey, it fit perfect from the get-go, and no gap.
I have played with it enough to have a feel for it now, and it's solid and works perfectly in controlled tests. I have an event this weekend to test it out in real life. It feels solid, and I think I actually like the more tactile shutter release feel better. I guess we'll have to see how it holds up to an event.
Count me in the +1 column on NOT wanting a permanent grip on the next Sony models...
I'll only use it when I want the extra battery for non-stop shooting at events or to balance out my 200-600mm for certain occasions, but otherwise, it's nice to be able go with keeping it small and unobtrusive too. It's bad enough with the white lenses, the grip just screams look at me!... and that can work against you a lot of times when trying to be in stealth mode, heh.
