This beautiful GHO family decided to nest in the desert Saguaro.
Although I was happy to see them, it was a bittersweet moment. A bunch of paparazzi (sigh) were scouting that place, not letting the owls have their time (In my humble opinion). I was in and out in 15 minutes, and even with that, I felt bad.

Looking at the cactus, it appears that most of the spines in the vicinity of the chicks have been removed. Any idea if that is a coincidence, or a reason they chose that site, or something the parents did?

Thank you. I am not sure about the spines on the saguaro. I want to believe it is a calculated move by the Owl's.

Thank you, Morris. The Saguaro nest is about 20-25 feet tall under a wash. I was shooting from a side road (higher up). so from my field of view, I'd think about 10-15 feet
