Focus ring on mine is pretty stiff too, compared to my Leica 35 and 50 luxs. I seem to remember my CV Ultron 28 was smooth. Maybe it gets better with use? Does not bother me though. Figured it just takes a little getting used to. Also, in a way the extra stiffness helps getting the focus accurate.

Thanks. The stiffness does make it easier to focus than the 75 1.5 I used to own, which was too loose considering the short focus throw. I guess I've gotten spoiled with the focus feel of the CV 35 1.5, which is crazy nice.
It's possible that there may be some variation because my copy has a smooth focusing mechanism with slight resistance. This allows me to focus with assurance and achieve mostly sharp images in terms of focus accuracy.
Although the SC version I had for testing did not securely lock onto the camera mount, I proceeded to test it anyway. However, this posed a potential danger as the lens could easily become unscrewed if rotated...so variation...

It seems to be an oddly common problem these days . On two of my lenses the machined recess for the lock pin wasn't deburred. It didn't take much effort to fix but still extremely annoying.

Interesting. Well that gives me hope that mine might loosen up with use. Need to set the capped lens in the window sun for 15-20 minutes tomorrow to see if it will warm up the grease, then rack focus over and over.

Fred,
yet that same SC 75 locked perfectly into the mounts of an M11, M10R, M7, M6, M4.

It's quite strange it works with your M bodies Stephen. While all my Leica/Zeiss/Voigtlander lenses attach seamlessly to my M10-R's mount, the 75/1.9 SC version in question didn't make a 'click' sound. Rotating the lens without pressing the release button would cause it to come off.
This is how my Nokton 50/1.5 looked like. The burr (present on both sides) prevented the lock pin from dropping into the cut out. Once I removed it, it was fine.

I can clearly see the burr and it probably caused the issue I experienced. Did you use sandpaper to flatten it out?
Not an expert by any means. But that would probably need something a little stronger like a small filer (nail?). Also, first few times I put the lens on there was no "click" that you normally hear. But I can hear it now and also see the lens release button move forward when the lens is locked in.

haven't seen anything from an IQ perspective that makes the case for this over the Nokton. the MFD and form factor remain compelling, however.
It's smaller, light, cheaper and has a different draw. That's enough for many. Both these lenses are probably optically "good enough" for most.

My deburring tool was too large, but I just used a small very hard tipped flat end screw driver. I generally have a few of these screwdrivers for my old Nikkor lens repairs.... the drivers need to be shaved down to be quite sharp at the tip and then usually also to the correct width. To get the burr off one needs a hard sharp surface to rub along the burr and essentially cut/fold it off.
One can lightly finish the edges with some folded fine sandpaper... but I wouldn't do too much here so long as the lock pin falls into place.
After about three weeks of use, I didn't notice any difference in sharpness between F1.9 and F5.6 at infinity focus, and only experienced chromatic aberration at F1.9.
However, at the minimum focusing distance(0.5M), the difference in sharpness between F1.9 and F5.6 is very significant

Infinity center, yes, but the corners need stopping down to f/4-5.6.

Same here. Mounting click was very muffled for a while, but it did engage. Since then, mine has become normal and clicks confidently when mounting.
Also per our previous conversation, the focusing resistance on mine has loosened just in the last day or so. This is similar to my recent Leica lenses, some of which took almost a week to loosen up with regard to focusing feel.
Lovely shots. I like how the lens performs here even though your skill surely shines as well. This is exactly the type of use I envision for the lens, so these samples are super useful.
