Hi Richard,

Take a look at this post "A way to think about subject detection"
https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1801321/0

And also my BIF setup for the X-H2s:
https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1772910/0

Please feel free to ask questions,

Morris

Thank you Morris

I have changed a few settings and will head out tomorrow to see if there is an improvement

What a wonderful variety of beautiful animals! Please report back on how are you doing with your set-up; I also have the X-H2s and XF 150-600 so am always looking to better understand my settings. Right now I use Morris's setup with pretty good success.

Thank you

I live in Australia, and yes, there are plenty of birds here. Well worth considering a visit if you're ever looking for a birding holiday

Thank you

I changed the settings to the same as Morris's. There is an improvement in the number of images where the eye is in-focus.

I'll try these settings out for a few days at some of our local reserves.

From this mornings wander to check the changes using Morris's settings

I found an improvement with eyes being in-focus.

A few samples from this mornings brief walk

#1 I was nearly run over by this Echidna. Luckily I had the lens focus set to full focus and not 5mtr to infinity

#2 Southern Brown Bandicoot

#3 Superb Fairy-wren

#4 Little Wattlebird

Superb shots Richard, it seems you got a lot of keepers and with experience plus eventual firmware updates coming you might get even more in the future. Cheers

So, ya think you can post more images in one thread?

I have the XT-5 and the 150-600. Now I need to find some wildlife.

No one is forcing you to view this thread

The Fuji X-H2S and 150-600mm lens is getting more frustrating the longer I use it. I get more keepers with my Nikon Z fc using a Z 100-400mm lens and 1.4x TC. There is no stacked sensor, no IBIS, just consistent results. Sure the Z fc doesn't get the same results of the Z 9, but at least I can rely on the AF.

More images from the Fuji...

#1 Brown Goshawk

#2 Laughing Kookaburra

#3 Golden Whistler

#4 Brown Thornbill

#5 Silvereye

Oh, come on. That's the most ridiculous reply. I come to this forum because I am interested in Fuji products. No one knows how long and boring a thread will be until they start to read it. Give us all a break. Quality before quantity!

Thank you for being honest. Now the question for me is, is it the photographer or the camera body and lens making these images low quality, maybe a bit of both?

Embedding the 1600x long side flickr versions of the pics is lending to a lack critical sharpness when viewed here.

If you simply post the link to the full size file (or 5k/6k) and don't use frame tags, it'll fit on everyone's screen and appear MUCH sharper.

At least it's not as bad as the guy who keeps posting images from a fixed-lens camera in the X-Mount Images thread...

I don’t see an issue with that

I’ve been using Fuji gear for years, my current favourite Fuji camera is the X100V. The earlier bodies, in particular the X-T3 and X-H1 were great to use and gave me results I was happy with. The current ones not so much. As can be seen in this thread I like to give cameras and lenses a good opportunity to prove themselves in the field.

I’m generally out in the bush 3 to 4 days per week. Other subjects I enjoy photographing are native orchids and fungi which is why I’m out so often. We’re heading into our cooler months. The next few weeks we should be seeing ghost fungi, which means I’ll also be out at night.

The following images were not taken using Fuji body or lenses, and there is are reasons for that. I guess this thread highlights one of my issues with using Fuji for flora and fauna.

I'm posting these images a smaller size as they were not taken with Fuji gear, and are to show anyone interested in seeing a few of my other favourite subjects. Sorry @RoamingScott I'm using the same method as the rest of this thread to post these images to ensure they are smaller in size

These glow in the dark Fungi are great to see and sometimes difficult to photograph

Varieties of native orchids are in flower virtually all year where as fungi mainly autumn and winter

I made a few changes to the camera this morning. Turning subject detection off gives me more keepers, however it kind of defeats the purpose of investing in the X-H2S over one of the cheaper models.

As the weather is cooling down the Robins are starting to make an appearance. We have nine varieties of Robins in Victoria which include the beautiful Pink, Rose, Scarlet, Flame, and Red Capped varieties. I'm heading approx. 100km north in a few weeks to try and find and photograph as many varieties as I can, plus whatever else I come across while out and about. I'll keep persevering with the Fuji until then, but at this stage I doubt I'll be taking the Fuji along on the trip

One from this morning to see if changing the way I post images makes an improvement.

I have edited each image file in this thread from 'frame' to 'img'.

While I may have a few issues with the X-H2S body, the 150-600mm lens is alright

Lose the tags altogether for the best embedding, just the URL. Frame and IMG tags make them wider than the page. Your previous pics look much cleaner now though.

Thanks, that makes it easy.
