First Brown Thrasher of the season that was close enough to get a decent photo. This was actually shot thru a double-pane window.

Quite a nice one Russ, I was wondering if the horizontal lines we can see are from heat or some kind of window so I got my answer^^ cheers

The double-pane window definitely produces the multi-line effect in OOF areas, depending on your shooting angle (try to stay as close to normal incidence as possible). I have further observed that doing this with a Fresnel Optics lens (DO or PF) magnifies this and is something to be avoided; better to say with traditional optics.

Still learning this camera and liking it more and more. I have C1 for BIF and C2 for animals set for low light and much slower shutter speed. When I saw this armadillo I forgot all about changing to C2! So it was fast SS and high ISO - but the camera did a good job at ISO3200! It would not leave the safety of its hole (and its mate) a few feet away so I had to crawl on my belly to take these. I greatly appreciate how much lighter and more maneuverable this is over my previous Cannon kit.

Those are great. Lighting and composition are excellent. I don't think armadillos get much attention or respect, but you have done an outstanding series.

How difficult was it to get this combination to work? Also do not be surprised if I PM you a lot about this since I'm most likely picking my XH2S up this week.

Hi Marcs,

You want both the X-H2s and Fringer Adapter on the latest firmware. Then connect them and it will be like you are using native glass with the advantages of clutch focus on the Nikon 500 PF.

OK. So basically Russ' complaints with the XH1 stem from FW issues between the older body and adapter?

Russ' X-H1 is listed as supported by Fringer. I do not know the last time they tested the combination. He seems to be the only person with complaints.

Had the same problem with an X-H2 as well, so not just the older bodies. The experience with the X-H2 is why I have paused purchasing either an X-H2 or X-H2S. Don't need the 40MPX for landscapes, I use the GFX100S for that and have no need for taking 40 FPS at f/11. The 24MPX X-H1 takes outstanding images.

And stuff does happen.

If you want it, I have one of my two Fringer NF-FX adapters for sale at the moment on FM. Both operate identically, such as it is.

Thru the window picture of a bird that can be surprisingly difficult to image well. If the light catches them just right they can have remarkable iridescence. Common Grackle with the X-H1.

Thank you,

Yes, I process in layers sharpening areas where I want the detail to show. I'm processing in Photoshop and sharpen first with Topaz Labs Sharpen AI and then apply a tiny bit of USM in Photoshop to finish. Last I erase the areas from the top layer where I want to show the details revealing the sharpness.

The Great Horned Owl chicks and there mom were photographed in one of New York City's urban parks. The flight photo was taken as mom flew through the trees and shooting at 40 FPS allowed me to get some images that were not badly obstructed.
