Here are 2 pics of a bull moose with XT-1 with 100-400. I cannot help but think if only this same comp was taken with my new X-H2. Normally I would not post the 2nd pic because it really does not pass my "eye in focus" criteria. It's obvious the lens is focusing somewhere behind the shoulder, leaving the eye in marginal focus. Looking forward to what the X-H2 will deliver!

You are killing me with those images using the X-T5 and the Nikkor 500mm PF.
I seem to be one of the few that cannot get that lens to correctly work with a Fuji X-series body (X-H1 and X-H2). Had to go through 3 of those Fringer NF-FX adapters to find one that would talk to the camera body at all, never mind be fully functional.
My experience with the Fringer EF-FX or EF-GF adapters has been nothing short of stellar, but not with the Nikkor version. Can't recommend it.
I haven't had any real issues with the fringer , the one thing I noticed vs a native lens, is the camera would some times lock focus at infinity and refuse to zoom back in. This happens more with the 300pf than the 500pf, so I just manually focus (short throw) to get it close and then it's fine. Image review seams slower with the adapted lens attached as well, at least the first image popping up.

The problem that I have, with both my X-H1 and an X-H2, is the lens stops down to f/11 as soon as you attach it to the camera body. The top plate will show f/5.6, and you can rotate the front command dial to get to other f-numbers, but the actual aperture never changes. This can be verified by looking down the lens barrel -- you can see the aperture blades. You can also compare exposure values by using another f/5.6 lens (like the Fuji 100-400) and you can see that the difference is about two f-stops.
You can run a further test by putting the camera into Manual mode, and set the lens to manual focus, and set the shutter speed to 1 second. Depress the shutter while looking down the lens barrel and the aperture never changes.
Works perfectly on a Nikon D300, a D500, and a D750. Very sharp images, nothing wrong with this lens as far as Nikon is concerned. Doesn't work on a Fuji.
I am not convinced that Fringer actually tested this lens, just assumed it would work.
I just mounted both the 300 and 500 on the X-T5 , I'm running most recent fringer firmware, and I don't have that issue. I can use command dials to scroll through the aperture values and blades move through the range. Maybe it's a camera setting ? or firmware ?
From fringer website
"Regarding D/G lenses from Nikon and other non-electromagnetic auto lenses from third parties, there is a mechanical coupling between the lens and the adapter which may bring aperture control tolerance inevitably. When the camera is metering, if the shutter speed is set to auto, e.g., aperture priority mode, it may use a different aperture from your setting. That may cause metering tolerance. To avoid it, you need to set the shutter speed manually so that the camera will use the same aperture setting when metering."

Yes, that is true. I always operate in M mode, setting the Aperture and Shutter Speed and letting the camera set the ISO. If the situation has more or less non-changing lighting, I will also set the ISO. Use my Fuji's that way, use my Canon's that way. Just have to keep an eye on the ISO.
Unlike with all of my Canon EF glass, which has worked nearly flawlessly with the Fringer EF-FX adapter, the Nikkor 500 PF has no aperture control, regardless of what I have tried. It wouldn't be so bad if it locked the aperture at f/5.6 since that is what I would use the 500PF at, but it locks it up at f/11, which is why focus speed is so poor, and performance is not up to what the lens produces on a Nikon DSLR camera body. You don't acquire the 500mm PF because you want an f/11 lens.
Unfortunately, just because a lens is on Fringer's list doesn't mean that YOUR copy will work. A bit of a crap shoot.
Will probably acquire a gently used D500 so I can get some use out of this stellar piece of glass.
Well enough of this griping about the Fringer and the Nikkor 500mm PF. Despite the Aperture issues I still use it for bird photography. Here is an example from a few days ago of the Snow Geese at the Middle Creek WMA in Central PA.
Have been testing out an X-H2 the last few days to see if I would prefer it over the X-H2S as a successor to my X-H1.
Bear in mind the actual aperture is about f/11, not the f/5.6 in the EXIFs data.

I can never get a decent/sharp flight shot .. guess I need to increase the shutter speed. I've only been shooting birds for 3 months , so still learning. I'm torn on the 500PF , I love the 300 for the size , and don't mind it with a TC. Debating on returning the 500pf because it's annoying to hike with. I do like the output though.

I recently ran into a guy carrying a D500 with a 200-500mm 5.6 and it reminded me why I used to shoot a Nikon D800. Too much weight to lug around hiking for my style of shooting. I had the 300 f4 AFS when I shot Nikon and have been looking at the 300pf. What TCs have you been using with it? Nikon or Fuji? 1.4, 1.7 or 2.0?

I only own the 1.4 Nikon TC currently , seams to work pretty well with the 300pf. Thinking of picking up the 1.7 but I have read all sorts of complaints about it... but then again , happy people don't bother to write. I see a few on the buy and sell board now for around 150 , it's worth trying out. The 300pf is around 800 bucks are MPB.com , best purchase I've made lately. I have a couple of Nikon bodies I hang on to just because they were my first love, but when given the choice I always pickup the X-T5 most times.
