Well done. I like the fact that some elements are somewhat understated, yet others are eye-catching at the same time. Clever contrast of colors. I was wondering what it would look like if she wore slightly orange lipstick, as an accent to the dress?

Thanks too for your great question. Such fun to discuss intent, and whether or not an image delivers the intended message. The goal for the first image was to direct the viewer's attention to the luxurious silk gown, and to the bag in the second image. For the intended use the gown and bag are subjects. I needed both gown and bag, and their color to pop. The model, dressed in the gown and holding the bag, hopefully evokes thoughts of glamour and sophistication. For the intended use, in my opinion, if the model's lips were closer to the color of the gown, at first glance you might not give the gown your full attention, as desired for the use. By changing the lip color would we create more of a portrait than a product shot? Interesting. What do you think? Now knowing some backstory, do these images serve their purpose? Thanks for your comment!

Yes, that makes a lot of sense. It would have been more a portrait than a product shot, and the lipstick would have distracted as you say. My brain is into portraits rather than product shots, and therefore I would choose to accentuate the character and mood of the model rather than the objects around her. Thanks for the clarification.

I like your thinking Charles, and agree with you. Also want to acknowledge your sensitivity in seeing the subtleties in these images. Nice.
Isn't it fun to direct the viewer's attention with color, light, focus, depth of field, cropping, etc? Often comes down to what are we photographers trying to communicate. Are we delivering a message, a feeling, emotion, a lifestyle. Or are we just taking our viewers to another world. The range of possibilities seem endless. Thanks for the discussion.
