p.1 #1 · Stella Rosa

First of all, I want to apologize for being a turd in this sandbox in the last year or so. It never occurred to me that “studio/advertising” used in the description of this board meant that it was only for photographs that included people. Now that it has been brought to my attention, it certainly makes sense. My bad.

I want to thank all those who have been tolerant of my mistake. Since an image like the one I have presented here really doesn’t really fit under any other category that I can tell (at least not in my mind), this will unfortunately be my last such post. If I find actual people to stand in front of my camera, I'll pop in.

Regarding the posted image, I am using it as my holiday season's greeting card. I can’t tell you what to do, but if you are fortunate enough to have something positive to celebrate at this time of year, and you celebrate by partaking in an adult beverage of your choice, I would encourage you to do so responsibly. Don’t be a news story tomorrow.
For what it’s worth, I’m told that the adult beverage featured in this image is quite good.

Products are people too, (and have feelings)

Wonder why we cannot have a page for all the lonely product shots?

I used to give talks to classes at Art Center in Pasadena, mostly to the product photography classes, and I'd mostly show them pictures of people and that always bewildered them. I'd just tell 'em that people were products that moved around and talked back but that light was light and that was all that mattered.

The question I got most back then was "How do you get the nerve to make a cold call to a potential client?" I'd tell them, and I still do this today, that if you don't make the call that the answer is automatically no, so the least you can do is make the call and give yourself a chance. You might be surprised.

But honestly, I don't know if there are enough people here shooting things to justify a new board. I put all my product images into the street/architecture section because, mostly, they are miniature architectural studies.

Hey Peter, I love that you threw a "curve" ball at the students. Light is so magical and those that get an insight to its artistic properties are quite lucky.

Love your work. I am a product shooter for well over 40 years myself (and not nearly as many chances to photograph people as you have) and absolutely love the challenge of making a product look like more than just the sum of its parts (design, brand, functionality, graphic appeal....)

Been an admirer for some time, but don't post images here, myself (maybe if there sas a product section).

....If you are so inclined.

Love the large format portraits of your partner. She is quite lovely.

Best!!
