p.1 #1 · Winter at Yosemite and Big Sur! and a Warning!
Was lucky to get some good winter wonderland conditions at Yosemite and then a brilliant susent at Big Sur.
Warning!!!
Was so happy until the last day of the trip, when I decided to go for the Golden Gate bridge sunset. Took a big risk of leaving my camera bag and tripod in the car when visiting Golden Gate park to kill some time, and paid dearly The camera bag and tripod were gone from the trunk when I returned (a total $5k worth of equipment). Do not ever leave your personal belongings in your car in this city of crooks lol (no offense to anyone)
Be careful when buying from SFO based sellers. Is probably stolen property.

Sonu, great images and so sorry to hear the horrible ending to u r trip. Hopefully, your equipment was insured. SF is not a city where you can take any chances.

Thanks! I don’t have equipment insurance but some portion of the loss will be covered in home insurance. Will look for good camera insurance now that I have to buy everything again.

Areas around Golden Gate (and all of SF in general) are known theft areas and prone to smash and grab. Even the areas you visited along Hwy1 in Carmel down to Big Sur are targeted areas. During workshops we used to leave someone behind with the vehicles in SF and in parking areas like Garrapata State Park along Hwy 1. Unfortunately, no surprise what has happened in CA. It's getting worse...

Nice shots and sorry to hear about your loss. Never leave gear in the trunk. Not sure why people don't bring camera bag with them. Tripod etc leave it in the car. Also be careful with claiming through home owners. I made a claim though my personal article policy (State Farm, recommend them) but even then I had problems with some insurance companies when trying to get a new home owners policy.

Thanks for the tip but i dont have other option apart from absorbing the entire loss. Leaving the camera bag behind was a stupid mistake.

A wonderful collection of images, especially the first one! So sorry for your loss! Perhaps you can pick up some slightly used equipment on the used market. The U.S. is really going down hill fast! Stay safe in 2023!

thank you. Hopefully they do something about it. Its mindboggling how the local government is dealing with this issue in CA. Dont want to make this a political thread so i will stop lol. You have a great 2023 as well.

So sorry about this incident. Every time I go there I remember the story of that other photographer who lost close to 20K in gear around there.
Nice sunstars in 2 of those shots, what lens were you using?
BTW, I did a photo gear only insurance with state farm this year and it is only ~$150/year....Give them a call. A friend of mine lost all his gear in Iceland after a big wave swept him and he got his money back through the same insurance, no questions asked.

Lovely shots and you got some nice conditions. So sorry to hear about the end of your trip. Fortunately, you were able to save some of the memories before your gear was lost.

Thanks for the tip. I will def checkout State Farm. I use Sony GM 16-35mm and 24-70mm at f/18 for thé sunstar in both pics

Great series. Really sorry to hear about the gear and I find theft like this really frustrating, but I'll avoid my rant here to stay on topic. I hope you can get back to your photographic interests soon.

Great image series..... sorry to hear about your equipment. I live in the Bay Area and it is sad that it's such problem. Some tips for future travelers.... try to bring valuables with you. If you have to leave items in the car try to get all valuables out of site and in your trunk before your parking destination. In popular areas, the "Crooks" are usually watching you when you park at stash your valuables.

Yeah, I always put gear away before heading to a parking lot/area as I don't even want people to seeing me go into the trunk. Something my mother was always paranoid about - "don't let people see you going into your trunk. It attracts thieves"
Anyway, nice images by the OP. Hope you recover your gear or have insurance to help make whole.

Great images - thanks for sharing.
Another + to State Farm. I have a separate policy for my photo equipment and it runs $135-150/year. I give my insurance agent an updated equipment list every year so there is no quibbling about what I own (the list is for the adjuster since he'll be the one quibbling).
