I don't think I've noticed much in the way of a contrast difference.. For some reason the pre-FLE does seem to produce slightly warmer images, so there probably is a coating difference in some way. I think the FLE is probably sharper across the frame until about f/5.6ish when you really can't tell a difference any longer.
The FLE takes some amazing images, but they are super sharp and very modern, IMO. The pre-FLE still has some of that 1990's/2000's not-quite-perfectly-corrected characteristic to it. Not as glowy / dreamy as the pre-ASPH (I quickly tired of that look, and my wife asking me why all our daughter's photos looked blurry), but still a bit less perfect than the FLE....Show more →
It's for sure an uber-modern lens. Was just wondering what your impression was of the two. That is close to my thinking as well, and a consensus between the two. I was personally reminded of the Pentax 31 limited with that lens. Maybe at some point I'll try it again. I personally really like the 35 Lux Pre-ASPH, but it definitely has a strong look, which can make it less versatile/more polarizing and tiresome (especially if one doesn't like the look). I like my FLE, will probably sell it soon. Did well on my ice fishing trip last weekend though.

No one can live without a 35mm LUX ASPH. It is a Leica benchmark lens. So good, so useful. Why fight it?

Good point. I'll get my sh*t sorted out Steve!
I keep telling myself that I would really rather possess a vintage, pre-ASPH Summilux, but, yes, the ASPH, especially the FLE, does keep calling to me.
The 35 Lux FLE is not only my favotite 35 (and over the decades I have shot with a lot of 35s) it is my favorite lens period. Like Steve said why fight it.

Yep, I am about to leave my house to do my work for the day. As always I will take my Leica along with me. The only lens will be my 35mm Summilux ASPH mounted on the camera.
@BruceRH Thanks Bruce! It was the best weather day in the last 5 years of our annual ice fishing trip. Just serene out there, and we got plenty of fish meals from the pike.
i shot this one of the live aboard boats, the skyline, and the Disney Cruise Ship while walking by the San Diego Bay this afternoon. Rain storm moving in tonight.

Shot this for my buddy and his girlfriend at Sushi Sato in San Francisco. I have never sat in a darker restaurant, and we only had traces of light coming in. Just love the pop of BW portraits with the FLE.

Very nice image, with that Leica Summilux rendering. I am sure your friends love that image. It was a very nice thing to do.
I'm thinking about going to M10R from M10. I use 35 FLE 99% of the time. From some of the images, it seems like the rendering from the M10R sensor looks different enough where I prefer the M10 look. It may be different postprocessing preferences. Have other noticed a significant different with the 2 sensors paired with 35 FLE?
