Thanks! Shutter was 1/250th (the max my Nikon bodies could synch with Alien Bees strobes - Canon's were 1/160th) The flames were all different shapes, but were produced for each shot with lighter fluid on a small rolled up wick of paper towel stuffed into the cut end of the pepper. I would light it at his right shoulder, and he would drag it to the final position which would leave a trail of smoke.
The first boyfriend my daughter brought home got scared off by the gauntlet of brothers, but she has a great sense of humor.
