wow - can't stop wondering how close were you - yes, I realized that you cropped some shots, but it seems still very close- which is a good thing - amazing detail and timing

Brooks Falls/Lodge is a very unique place in Katmai NP...I would say, at the falls you anywhere from 30 yards and out...just depends where the bears are...I have never been in July/August but there is video of bears being everywhere....Sept there was still 10+ bears in the area...
Walking the paths can create some very unique, up close and personal bear viewing...just search on YouTube and you will see those videos...
Luckily, humans are not on the menu...there is so much salmon for the bears....
