Only the first 100 get film, I believe.
Who still uses film? Didn’t Leica get the memo from Canikon?
Taken w M7…
It’s actually a really decent promotion by Leica, they are championing film here. 100 rolls, plus developing and printing? That’s going to be a couple o grand at each location. But I’m sure Ilford is donating it, and good for them. Even though Leica shipped M-As with tri-x…
A while back I wrote that to promote film Leica should offer a concierge film dev and printing service at its stores. Where people would drop off and pick up later a week or so all wrapped up in a nice box. Even though Leica would outsource it. Just because so many people still have no idea that they can get film developed etc.
It would highlight Leica’s heritage and they could even sell refurbed aka cla-d film cameras next to their digi stuff. Pointing out they use the same lenses etc.
Have a nice small film counter with some cool framed film images behind them.

They do that in a location or two with Carmencita lab. It would just be so cool if Leica had a drop off service in all their locations choosing a variety of outsourcing labs based on quality and location. So they raise awareness and support labs, thus getting more people to use an MP masquareding as an M6. All it would cost them is the price of shipping a box of film every 2/3 weeks or so.

Nowadays, I probably wouldn't want to walk around with $8k worth of camera gear in LA. Just saying...

No need to worry, most people don’t know how to use manual focus film like stuff, even if it is digital. so pretty much undesirable to criminals.
it’s why I buy all my Porsches with manual transmissions. Makes them theft free. Criminals walk by, check it out, see the weird stick with three pedals, have no idea how to use that and instead take Bif’s C8 Vette.

If yoy wont use it then why have it? I say insure it for full replacement and hit the streets. I don't think twice about getting out here in Chicago with my Leica M 10 M.

OMG, I laughed so hard, I almost fell off my chair...
Thanks for that.

Because thieves don't just kindly ask for your camera; they hit you over the head with a crowbar...

I have shot on the streets here for decades. Common sense and you wont have issues. Most folks don't recognize Leica's unless it's other photographers. If you're scared and act that way then you might just have problems.

Perhaps if you had relatives and friends who have been attacked you would see things a bit differently. This isn't about being 'scared' my friend.

This is a different topic now, but I eluded to this a few years back when I posted if Europe is still safe for photographers. My answer from own experience: No, it is not. Since a few years I am not taking my Leica gear with me on trips there anymore. And my gear is not even $8K. But robberies happen everywhere even in Germany now and it is too risky for me to lug around high value gear there. I know it is sort of sad that I am not using my favorite gear there as often as I would like. But I can't change the reality that things have changed. I simply adapt and make the best of it.

I live in Europe and have been to many countries and cities there. I've shot in the streets everywhere for decades including in places where crime is high and never had any problem.
I hardly see why it would be riskier than the US or other places around the world if you respect the basic rules.

I wouldn't own it if I were afraid to take on the streets and use it.
