Was just told it would be a six week wait. Brand new Leica, six week wait for repair.
Nothing new unfortunately. My reseller tests everything before sending to customers and returns to Leica when not perfect. He had problems with them because of their failure rate.
But it used to be even worst and I have been through some horror stories myself where you had to fight zombies to get your gear properly repaired

My new M10-R malfunctioned as well. (right outside the 30-day return period)
At New Jersey for a month already...Shooting with a M9-P in the meantime.
Did that cute little signed quality check card come with your camera too?
Bragging about how a trained professional checked over your camera at multiple times through its production..
I can sort of understand how a complicated digital camera like an M10r may have an issue. But for what is basically a stone age simple film camera that has been made in various forms for over 100 years now to not get the most basic things right?
If the kindergartners assembling plastic disposable cameras in China are getting it right, how can the trained adult professionals at Leica not? Is it because their fingers are too big?

To be fair, the camera worked perfectly for 40 days without an issue before the malfunction. I have requested a replacement but it was declined.

Mine scratched film from exposure 1, roll 1.
To be fair Leica Store LA said they would have exchanged it if they had any in stock.
For all the bad initial experience, I am really looking forward to getting it back because I love everything about it - once it works properly! So if this is the hiccup at the beginning of my decades long experience with it, I’ll be ok with that.

The number of reports I am reading about problems in new Leica cameras, and the length of time it takes to rectify the problems is a bit disturbing. It causes me to question QC at Leica, and its commitment to keeping the premium priced Leica products a premium experience for its customers.
In my opinion a premium priced product should be backed by the company in a way that should you receive a defective copy, or one that fails in the first 90 days, Leica should have stock held to replace it within 24 hours, and send it out by overnight delivery.
Heck, the camera stores I patronize would do that on any product I buy from them.
Premium means much more than fancy stores, and fancy packaging....

That and the 6 weeks is also pretty unacceptable IMHO. Why can that not be 2-3 weeks like with any other company?

I was a CPS member for so long I remember when you had t oprove you were a full time pro to be one. And there was no charge. I could drop my Camera or lens that needed repair and pick up loaner equipment and the repair was usually ready in a couple of days.
Leica should think about some kind of program like CPS. Maybe pay like one does now for CPS?

QC at Leica
Textbook definition of an oxymoron
I remember my brand new 35mm/1.4 FLE being so badly calibrated the dealer gave me another one before I even went out the shop.
The other one was ok but the hood did not stayed screwed. Nothing some teflon would not fix: faster and more reliable than a trip back to Leica.

Just as a follow up. I received my new 2022 M6 and noticed that it scratches film. It is currently being repaired by Leica NJ.
Leica Store LA (a corporate Leica shop) would have traded it out for another one, but didn't have any.
Leica should give you a rebate on the paid camera price for having this trouble and not being able to use the camera for a while. Malfunctions with new gear can happen with every brand, but it is especially annoying when paying this kind of price for it branded as luxury item.
Maybe they didn't expect you to actually use this camera and only use it for display (just kidding )
Best of luck getting the camera back very soon and in excellent working condition!

I had a Canon1DsMkIII show up DOA. IIRC they were 7K. It can happen with any brand and that (7K) is certainly in the same price range as Leica was at that time. Had a mirror fall out os a 5DII on a job. When I was shooting for NATO when they were here in 2012 had a shutter fail.

The problem I see in this comparison is that Leica markets itself as being special by having the assemblies done hand-made with smaller tolerances and better quality control. This is often claimed as an excuse for the high price tag. But when the customer sees similar issues with new gear compared to the big camera brands where all is automated - why paying the high Leica price tags? The 1Ds MIII comparison is also comparing apples with oranges here - this DSLR was the most expensive professional Canon flagship camera > 15 years ago. If you want to compare this camera, you should use the Leica S1 (AF medium-format DSLR) as comparison which went for $23000 around the same time. Canon was and never has been even close on Leica prices for comparable gear .

Well even Rolls Royce have issues. Anything mechanical will break. I would argue that M is Leica's flagship line(thats according to Leica) and M is what is really special about Leica .I would say you could compare S with phase or digital blads. I am old enough to remember when Leica M was double the price of Canon F-1s or Nikon Fs. IIRC the M was twice the price I paid for my new F-1s.
